Journal ArticleDOI
A discussion of calibration techniques for evaluating binary and categorical predictive models.
TL;DR: A range of calibration tests are described, which typically measure the accuracy of predicted probabilities by comparing them to mean event occurrence rates within groups of similar test records, and include overall goodness-of-fit statistics in the form of the Hosmer-Lemeshow and Brier tests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors associated with animal mortality in pasture-based, seasonal-calving dairy and beef herds.
TL;DR: Results from the present study indicate that the risk factors associated with mortality in pasture-based, seasonal-calving herds are similar to those reported in literature in confinement, nonseasonal-Calving herds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Johne's disease in the eyes of Irish cattle farmers: A qualitative narrative research approach to understanding implications for disease management.
Conor G. McAloon,Áine Macken-Walsh,Lisa Moran,Paul Whyte,Simon J. More,Luke O’Grady,Michael L. Doherty +6 more
TL;DR: Qualitative analysis revealed that cultural and social capital informed farmers' decisions on whether to introduce control and preventive measures and highlighted important barriers and potential aids to prevention and control in both infected and uninfected herds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Eradicating BVD, reviewing Irish programme data and model predictions to support prospective decision making.
Hans-Hermann Thulke,Martin Lange,Jamie A. Tratalos,Tracy A. Clegg,Guy McGrath,Luke O’Grady,Padraig O'Sullivan,Michael L. Doherty,David Graham,Simon J. More +9 more
TL;DR: Information is reviewed from the national eradication programme and strategy performance predictions from an expert system model to quantify expected benefits of the strategy change from strategic, budgetary and implementation points of view, contributing to an informed debate of the pros and cons of a change in eradication strategy in Ireland.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of paratuberculosis in dairy herds - Part 1: Epidemiology.
Conor G. McAloon,S.M. Roche,Caroline Ritter,Herman W. Barkema,Paul Whyte,Simon J. More,Luke O’Grady,Martin J. Green,Michael L. Doherty +8 more
TL;DR: This is the first in a two-part review of the epidemiology and control of paratuberculosis in dairy herds, where the assumptions around age susceptibility, faecal shedding in calves and calf-to-calf transmission are revisited.
