Guidelines for the Display of Attribute Certainty

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate how the inclusion of attribute certainty in map displays influences GIS modeling and spatial decision support, and establish empirical evidence documenting the impact of the attribute certainty on GIS models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatial confidentiality and GIS: re-engineering mortality locations from published maps about Hurricane Katrina.

TL;DR: It is shown that the residence of an individual, visualized as a generalized point covering approximately one and half city blocks on a map, can be re-engineered back to identify the actual house location, or at least a close neighbour, even if the map contains little spatial reference information.
Journal ArticleDOI

Katrina and vulnerability: the geography of stress.

TL;DR: This paper uses a site and situation approach to show how maps of the five main sources of disaster-related stress in New Orleans can be used to predict where counseling resources should be targeted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluating the usefulness of functional distance measures when calibrating journey-to-crime distance decay functions

TL;DR: This research evaluates the usefulness of applying functional distance measures to criminal geographic profiles using mathematically calibrated distance decay models based on the distribution of distances between homicide crime locations and offender’s residences from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Impact of Hurricanes on Crime: A Spatio-Temporal Analysis in the City of Houston, Texas

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the impacts that Hurricane Rita, and for the pur- pose of comparison, Hurricane Katrina had on the temporal and spatial distributions of reported crimes in the city of Houston, TX.
