TL;DR: The importance of establishing the diagnosis preoperatively is re-emphasized and early surgery is recommended to save those infants in danger of death early in life.
Abstract: 1. 1. Division and suture of an aorticopulmonary septal defect in a three month old infant are reported and the management of the defect in the neonatal period is discussed. 2. 2. Review of the literature now reveals ninety-one cases of aorticopulmonary septal defect with forty-five attempted surgical closures. A decreasing surgical mortality as well as an increasing incidence of patients under one year of age has been evident in the past ten years. 3. 3. The importance of establishing the diagnosis preoperatively is re-emphasized and early surgery is recommended to save those infants in danger of death early in life.
