A cellular automaton model for freeway traffic

TL;DR: A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Book

Pedestrian and evacuation dynamics

TL;DR: The first International Conference on Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics (ICED) as mentioned in this paper dealt with modelling and simulation of pedestrian and crowd movement as well as the dynamical aspects of evacuation processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metastable states in cellular automata for traffic flow

TL;DR: It is shown that this model exhibits metastable states, thus sheding some light on the prerequisites for the occurance of hysteresis effects in the flow-density relation, and proposes a simple generalization of the NaSch model by introducing a velocity-dependent randomization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Two lane traffic simulations using cellular automata

TL;DR: A simple two-lane cellular automaton based upon the single-lane CA introduced by Nagel and Schreckenberg is examined, pointing out important parameters defining the shape of the fundamental diagram and investigating the importance of stochastic elements with respect to real life traffic.
