Scattering of plane sh waves by a semi‐cylindrical canyon

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the surface topography of the Pacoima Dam accelerogram, based on the semi-cylindrical canyon, for the two-dimensional scattering and diffraction of plane SH waves.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the correlation of seismic intensity scales with the peaks of recorded strong ground motion

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of local geology on the average peak velocities and displacements of strong ground motion versus Modified Mercalli intensity for 57 earthquakes and 187 strong-motion accelerograms recorded in the Western United States.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface motion of a semi-elliptical alluvial valley for incident plane SH waves

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the exact analytical solution for the two-dimensional SH-wave propagation in and around an elastic inclusion whose cross section corresponds to one half of an ellipse, and examined those aspects of the resulting ground motion that are of special interest for earthquake engineering and strong-motion seismology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zero baseline correction of strong-motion accelerograms

TL;DR: In this paper, a new baseline correction method for strong-motion accelerograms is proposed based on high-pass filtering of the uncorrected digitized accelerogram data, which has well defined frequency transfer function properties which are largely independent of the record length.
