QUEBRA DE DORMÊNCIA EM SEMENTES DE Adenanthera pavonina L.

A especie Cassia fistula L. (Fabaceae – Caesalpinioidea) propaga-se por sementes, e para promover a producao das mudas faz-se necessario superar a dormencia natural das sementes que e causada pela impermeabilidade do tegumento a agua. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes tratamentos pre-germinativos para superar a dormencia de sementes de C. fistula. As sementes foram submetidas aos seguintes tratamentos: testemunha - sementes intactas (T1); escarificacao mecânica com lixa d’agua no 80 na regiao lateral da semente (T2); escarificacao mecânica com lixa d’agua no 80, seguida de embebicao em agua a temperatura ambiente por 12 e 24 h (T3 e T4, respectivamente); imersao em acido sulfurico por 1, 5, 10, 15 e 20 min (T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, respectivamente) e imersao em agua na temperatura de 100°C ate esfriamento (T10). As caracteristicas avaliadas foram: porcentagem de emergencia, primeira contagem de emergencia, indice de velocidade de emergencia, comprimento e massa seca de plântulas. Os resultados dos tratamentos que envolveram a imersao em agua na temperatura de 100°C nao superaram a dormencia de sementes de C. fistula. A maior porcentagem de emergencia das plântulas de C. fistula foi observada para sementes escarificadas com lixa d’agua no 80 na regiao lateral da semente.

Tratamentos para superar dormência de sementes de Cassia fistula L.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a metodologia mais adequada para superacao de dormencia das sementes de Parkia gigantocarpa Ducke e producao de mudas. As sementes foram submetidas aos seguintes tratamentos: imersao em agua fervente a temperatura de 100 oC, por 10 minutos; escarificacao acida, com imersao em acido sulfurico (H2SO4) a 98 %, por 5, 10, 20, 30 e 40 minutos; escarificacao mecânica, com abrasao em lixa no 80 por 15 segundos, e testemunha (sem tratamento). Tambem foi realizada a avaliacao da qualidade das mudas atraves da massa seca das raizes primarias. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com oito metodos de superacao de dormencia. Levando-se em consideracao todos os parâmetros avaliados, os resultados indicaram que a escarificacao acida por 30 e 40 minutos foram os metodos mais eficientes para a superacao da dormencia das sementes de Parkia gigantocarpa, proporcionando maior vigor na germinacao e maiores medias de massa seca para as raizes primarias

Superação de dormência em sementes de Parkia gigantocarpa (Fabaceae – Mimosidae)

A Apeiba tibourbou Aubl. e uma especie arborea pertencente a familia Tiliaceae, conhecida popularmente como pau-de-jangada, sendo utilizada como planta ornamental, na medicina popular e na fabricacao de pequenas embarcacoes. Objetivou-se nesse trabalho avaliar o efeito de diferentes tratamentos pre-germinativos e de temperaturas na germinacao de sementes de A. tibourbou. As sementes foram submetidas aos seguintes tratamentos: testemunha - sementes intactas (T1); escarificacao mecânica com lixa d'agua no 80, por 5 minutos (T2); escarificacao mecânica com lixa d'agua no 80, por 5 minutos, seguida de embebicao em agua a temperatura ambiente por 12 e 24 h (T3 e T4, respectivamente); imersao em agua na temperatura de 100 °C por 15 minutos (T5) e imersao em acido sulfurico por 1, 5, 10, 15 e 20 minutos (T5, T6, T7, T8, T9 e T10, respectivamente) e colocadas para germinar nas temperaturas de 25, 30, 35 e 20-30 °C. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, com quatro repeticoes, sendo os tratamentos distribuidos em esquema fatorial 10 x 4 e as medias comparadas pelo teste de Scott - Knott, a 5% de probabilidade. As caracteristicas avaliadas foram: porcentagem de germinacao, primeira contagem de germinacao, indice de velocidade de germinacao e comprimento de plântulas. Os tratamentos que envolveram a imersao em acido sulfurico nao superaram a dormencia de sementes de A. tibourbou. Para germinacao das sementes de A. tibourbou recomenda-se a escarificacao com lixa d'agua no 80 por 5 minutos e a temperatura de 30 °C.

Tratamentos pré-germinativos e temperaturas para a germinação de sementes de Apeiba tibourbou Aubl.

Due to absence of information about the methodology for the evaluation of the physiological quality of seeds of medicinal arboreal species seeds, the aim of the present work was to determine the most efficient method to overcome the seed coat dormancy in seeds of Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Roem.& Schult.) T.D.Penn. Besides the intact seeds, the ones which had not been submitted to any treatment, the following pre-germinating methods were used: chemical scarification: the seeds were immersed in pure sulfuric acid for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes at the environment temperature (27oC ± 1oC); mechanical scarification: the seeds were rubbed manually in sandpaper number 50, in the opposite side of micropyle, without and with soaking for 24 or 48 hours; thermal scarification: immersion in water at 100oC for 15 or 30 seconds; immersion in water to 80oC until cooling. The effects of treatments were evaluated through tests of germination and vigor. There were significant differences among the treatments for all the evaluated parameters (percentage and speed of germination, length and dry weight of shoot and root), and the most evident cause of dormancy was the coat impermeability, which efficiency was overcame by the immersion of seeds in pure sulfuric acid for 30 minutes.

Métodos para superação da dormência de sementes de quixabeira ( Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Roem. & Schult.) T.D.Penn.).

Considering the necessity of better knowledge about the dormancy overcoming processes of a species of a species of economic interest, the objective of the present article was to evaluate the different treatments used for Adenanthera pavonina L. seed dormancy overcoming germinated under three temperatures (30, 35 and 40oC). Two experiments were carried out: immersion in sulfuric acid (H2SO4) for 10, 20 and 30 minutes; mechanical scarification by the sandpaper for wood #80 for 15, 30 and 45 seconds and the control. A completely randomized experimental design was used for each experiment, with four repetitions with 40 seeds each. It was performed a regression analysis for each variable. The analyzed variables were: germination percentage in seven days; germination speed index (IVG) and germination speed (VG), accomplished daily through the counting of the germinated seeds. The seeds that showed radicle protrusion were considered germinated and they are discarded later. Under the conditions in which the procedures were conduced, it was possible to infer that: the temperature of 35oC promoted the highest germination percentages in seven days; The highest germination percentage at 35oC can be obtained with the immersion in H2SO4, for 22 minutes, or mechanical scarification by the sandpaper for wood #80, for 20 seconds. The maximum IVG, by 27 minutes (in H2SO4) or by 32.5 seconds (mechanical scarification) and the maximum VG, by 27.3 minutes (in H2SO4) or 34 seconds (mechanical scarification).
