Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of fractionated plasma separation and adsorption on survival in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure
Andreas Kribben,Guido Gerken,Sebastian Haag,Stefan Herget–Rosenthal,Ulrich Treichel,Christoph Betz,Christoph Sarrazin,Eric Hoste,Hans Van Vlierberghe,Angels Escorsell,Carsten Hafer,Oliver Schreiner,Peter R. Galle,Elena Mancini,Paolo Caraceni,Constantine J. Karvellas,Hermann Salmhofer,Mladen Knotek,Pere Ginès,Justyna Kozik–Jaromin,Kinan Rifai +20 more
TL;DR: Among all patients with AOCLF, extracorporeal liver support with FPSA does not increase the probability of survival, and further studies are needed to assess whether therapy might be beneficial in specific subsets of patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endotoxemic renal failure in mice: Role of tumor necrosis factor independent of inducible nitric oxide synthase
Mladen Knotek,Boris Rogachev,Wei Wang,Tevfik Ecder,Vyacheslav Y. Melnikov,Patricia E. Gengaro,Matthew L. Esson,Charles L. Edelstein,Charles A. Dinarello,Robert W. Schrier +9 more
TL;DR: A role of TNF is demonstrated in the early renal dysfunction in a septic mouse model independent of iNOS, hypotension, apoptosis, leukocyte accumulation, and morphological alterations, thus suggesting renal hypoperfusion secondary to an imbalance between, as yet to be defined, renal vasoconstrictors and vasodilators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attenuation of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in inducible nitric oxide synthase knockout mice.
Hong Ling,Charles L. Edelstein,Patricia E. Gengaro,Xianhong Meng,Scott Lucia,Mladen Knotek,Adisorn Wangsiripaisan,Yeuxian Shi,Robert W. Schrier +8 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, kidneys of iNOS knockout mice were protected against ischemic acute renal failure and this protective effect may be related to a compensatory upregulation of heat shock protein 72.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuronal nitric oxide synthase and systemic vasodilation in rats with cirrhosis.
Lieming Xu,Ethan P. Carter,Mamiko Ohara,Pierre-Yves Martin,Boris Rogachev,Kenneth G. Morris,Melissa A. Cadnapaphornchai,Mladen Knotek,Robert W. Schrier +8 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that nNOS-derived NO contributes to the development of the hyperdynamic circulation and fluid retention in cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic NOS inhibition reverses systemic vasodilation and glomerular hyperfiltration in pregnancy
Melissa A. Cadnapaphornchai,Mamiko Ohara,Kenneth G. Morris,Mladen Knotek,Boris Rogachev,Teri Ladtkow,Ethan P. Carter,Robert W. Schrier +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the hyperdynamic circulation and glomerular hyperfiltration of normal rat midterm pregnancy can be chronically reversed by NOS inhibition, and a role for endothelial damage and decreased NO in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia is suggested.
