Journal ArticleDOI

Wetting phenomena in membrane distillation: Mechanisms, reversal, and prevention

TL;DR: A broad review is carried out on wetting incidence in membrane distillation processes and describes the wetting mechanisms, wetting causes, and wetting detection methods, as well as hydrophobicity measurements of MD membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wetting prevention in membrane distillation through superhydrophobicity and recharging an air layer on the membrane surface

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the effect of recharging air bubbles on the membrane surface for the wetting incidence when a surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) exists in a highly concentrated NaCl aqueous solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-Running Comparison of Feed-Water Scaling in Membrane Distillation.

TL;DR: Examination of the system performance, water recovery, scale formation, and saturation index of a lab-scale vacuum membrane distillation in long-running test runs approaching 200 h implies that longer times are needed for MD fouling experiments, and provides further scaling-resistant evidence for MD.
