Fuzzy logic control, due to its simple control structure, easy and cost-effective design, has been successfully employed to the application of guidance and control in robotic fields. This paper aims to review fuzzy-logic-based guidance and control in an important branch of robots—marine robotic vehicles. First, guidance and motion forms including the maneuvering, path following, trajectory tracking, and position stabilization are described. Subsequently, the application of three major classes of fuzzy logic control, including the conventional fuzzy control (Mamdani fuzzy control and Takagi–Sugeno–Kang fuzzy control), adaptive fuzzy control (self-tuning fuzzy control and direct/indirect adaptive fuzzy control), and hybrid fuzzy control (fuzzy PID control, fuzzy sliding mode control, and neuro-fuzzy control) are presented. In particular, we summarize the design and analysis process of direct/indirect adaptive fuzzy control and fuzzy PID control in marine robotic fields. In addition, two comparative results between hybrid fuzzy control and the corresponding single control are provided to illustrate the superiority of hybrid fuzzy control. Finally, trends of the fuzzy future in marine robotic vehicles are concluded based on its state of the art.

Survey on Fuzzy-Logic-Based Guidance and Control of Marine Surface Vehicles and Underwater Vehicles

In this review, recent progress in the mechanical, thermal and interfacial properties of graphene/CNT multiphase polymer composites is examined. Progress in the mechanical and thermal properties of CNT (1D) and graphene (2D) nanostructure materials is also reviewed and compared. Furthermore, this review highlights the improvements in the mechanical, thermal and interfacial properties of two- and three-phase composites, owing to the addition of graphene/CNT. In particular, analysis of several notable papers on hybrid composites (graphene/CNT) provides an intensive review of synergetic effects on the overall properties of the corresponding composites. This holistic review describes an improved interface between fibers and a nanofiller-reinforced matrix. Although the presence of nanofillers even at low loadings confers an overall improvement in composite properties, the exact ratios of individual fillers and combined forms remain to be discussed in depth. Finally, potential applications, current challenges and future perspectives for use of these multiphase composites are discussed with regard to their extraordinary capabilities and promising developments in graphene/CNT family-based composite materials.

Underwater Robots: Motion and Force Control of Vehicle-Manipulator Systems

Natural gas vehicles offer the benefits of reducing oil use, CO2 emissions and air pollutants. Promoting the use of natural gas vehicles is considered as one of the most important strategies towards sustainable transportation. China made remarkable progress in promoting natural gas vehicles over recent years, and its 4.6 million natural gas vehicles in 2014 represented the world׳s largest natural gas vehicle fleet. In this paper, the development of natural gas vehicles in China is reviewed based on a triple-perspective (Fuel-Vehicle-Infrastructure) technical–economical framework. The review indicates that (a) pricing of vehicle-use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is essential in determining natural gas vehicle development. A pricing principle similar to the fixed CNG/gasoline price ratio (0.75:1) should be applied to LNG/diesel price ratio; (b) for CNG passenger vehicles, the modified CNG vehicles, with ¥3000–5000 additional cost, is more attractive to consumers than originally manufactured CNG vehicles, with about ¥10,000 additional cost. Vehicle retrofit should be permitted by the government with the precondition that retrofit standards are strictly enforced; (c) for CNG/LNG transit buses, the deployment is strongly affected by local government׳s preference. In regions with sufficient natural gas supply, the government should prioritize the deployment of CNG/LNG transit buses rather than other technologies; (d) for LNG commercial vehicles, with ¥60,000–80,000 higher cost than their counterpart diesel vehicles, financial incentive is critical for their development. China׳s current vehicle subsidy scheme should be extended to cover LNG commercial vehicles; (e) regarding refueling infrastructures, interference with urban land-use planning and long-time administrative approval are the major barriers. Local governments should launch dedicated plans and strategies to support the further deployment of CNG/LNG refueling infrastructures.

Performance Analysis of A Spark Ignition Engine Using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as Fuel

This study presents the performance of different control approaches that have been employed in controlling the vertical motion of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV). Different control schemes, based on conventional proportional derivative (PD) controller and an intelligent controller such as fuzzy logic (FL) controller techniques are proposed and their performance is compared. At the end of this study, the intelligent controller shows better result in term of rise time, T_r where the conventional controller value is approximately 39.49 seconds and the intelligent controller is 35.39 seconds, respectively.

A Robust of Fuzzy Logic and Proportional Derivative Control System for Monitoring Underwater Vehicles

Graphene is already known as a material with the capability of conducting electrical, thermal, lightweight, and robust traits. Graphene has shown promising use in electronic industries in that its thermal and conductivity abilities make it a suitable candidate for interconnections in electronic circuits as well as being part of the circuits themselves. The potential of graphene to be used in various types of sensors makes it more interesting than the conventional sensors because this one-atom-thick sheet of carbon can sense the smallest signal. The potential for graphene nanocomposite–filled polymers for stretchable conductive ink (SCI) has raised attention and interest in its potential in many industries. Graphene also is capable to effectively convert light into energy, which generates more electrons for each photon of light energy it receives. Graphene can be used in lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries by combination of tin (Sn) and the graphene nanocomposite. Graphene has gained a lot of interest in supercapacitor applications. Graphene can associate fully accessible high specific surface area (SSA) with high conductivity to be able to shield the electromagnetic induction (EMI) waves during transportation, and graphene materials are also widely used in electrostatic discharge (ESD) and shielding. It can increase the durability of the electronic devices, and the cost is very low.

Electronic Applications of Functionalized Graphene Nanocomposites

Mechanical Properties on ABS/PLA Materials for Geospatial Imaging Printed Product using 3D Printer Technology

The laminated rubber-metal spring is well known in application as the vibration isolator for earthquake protection. The spring is therefore designed to be able to sustain the vibration waves from horizontal direction. This paper discusses the possibility of the laminated spring to be employed for other applications where the excitation mainly comes from axial direction, such as to isolate vibration transmission from heavy engine. The model is first developed for a simple finite rod to simulate the effect of internal resonances at high frequency when the wavelength is much smaller than the length of the rod. The effect of metal plates inserted in the rubber is then modelled using the lumped parameter system. The results are presented in terms of the vibration transmissibility.
