As the title of this book identifies clearly, the authors combine the concepts of competitiveness and sustainability, which some may feel are difficult to reconcile, to provide guidance to enhance the management of tourism destinations. The contents of this book are not novel for it does not contain new insights on the topics that are covered or fresh case studies. However, it is innovative in that it introduces, within the same document, competitiveness and sustainability, embellishes these concepts and uses them to develop a conceptual framework. The explication of this framework is both the objective and content of the book. The focus is upon tourism destinations. The emphasis is on places with multiple attractions and accommodation establishments but the framework has applicability to countries and larger regions; states counties and smaller places; and there is also much of utility to the individual operator. The authors are devotees of Porter whose seminal works underpin their thinking, albeit with modifications to fit tourism.

Ease of use and usefulness are believed to be fundamental in determining the acceptance and use of various, corporate ITs. These beliefs, however, may not explain the user’s behavior toward newly emerging ITs, such as the World-Wide-Web (WWW). In this study, we introduce playfulness as a new factor that reflects the user’s intrinsic belief in WWW acceptance. Beyond the Usefulness and Ease of Use : Extending the TAM for a World - Wide - Web Context

Purpose: To know how the application of environmental politicies facilitates the identification of unknown costs and their next reaction. Moreover we try to determine, if these costs have a connection with the different environmental strategies, which are used. Design/methodology/approach: An empiric study was done through a telephonic survey all over Spain in 2012. The idea was to obtain a representative sample. From 943 companies, the survey was answered by 141 of them. Findings and Originality/value: It is shown the relationship between the costs behavior, knowledge of the unknown and hidden costs with the environmental strategies. Research limitations/implications: To dispose a bigger sample, this allowed us to obtain results in relationship with sectors type and to verify the result for regions. Practical implications: The organizations can be aware of costs reaction, depending on their action in the environmental area. Originality/value: Environmental politicies in the CSR field facilitate unknown or hidden costs detection and they allow their evaluation and the decisions about them. The obtained improvements can revert to the society due to the development of environmental politicies and they offer a competitive advantage for the company.

espanolComo recoge el Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) numero 5, diferentes normativas y la literatura cientifica, la formacion de los directivos en perspectiva de genero es una necesidad y requisito para conseguir unas organizaciones que eliminen las normas masculinas invisibles y transformen las relaciones tradicionales de genero. Asi, uno de los desafios que afronta la sociedad actual es formar y concienciar a los futuros ejecutivos en la relevancia de la igualdad de genero en las estructuras organizativas venideras. En este sentido, el presente articulo tiene como objetivos analizar el diseno de las asignaturas y la asimilacion de contenidos por parte del alumnado universitario del Grado en Turismo y del Grado en Gestion Hotelera y Turistica de Cataluna acerca de la implantacion de las politicas institucionales y de las iniciativas privadas en igualdad de genero. Para ello, se realiza una revision de los planes docentes de las distintas universidades publicas y privadas y se recogen datos acerca del conocimiento del estudiantado a traves de un cuestionario dicotomico. Los resultados indican que, a pesar de que la perspectiva de genero se esta incorporando lentamente en la docencia universitaria de los grados en turismo, todavia queda un largo recorrido. Consecuentemente, los conocimientos que manifiesta tener el estudiantado acerca de esta tematica son todavia minimos. EnglishAs stated in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 5, different regulations and academic literature, the education of managers in a gender perspective is a necessity and a requirement to achieve organizations that eliminate invisible male norms and transform traditional gender relations. Thus, one of the challenges facing current's society is to train and educate future executives on the relevance of gender equality in future organizational structures. In this sense, this article aims to analyze the design of the subjects and the assimilation of content among university students of the Bachelor's Degree in Tourism and the Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management in Catalonia regarding the implementation of institutional policies and private initiatives on gender equality. To do this, a review of the teaching plans of the different public and private universities is carried out and data about the knowledge of the students is collected through a dichotomous questionnaire. The results indicate that, despite the gender perspective is slowly being incorporated into university teaching of degrees in tourism, there is still a long way to go. Consequently, the knowledge of the student community about this subject is still negligible.

Perspectiva de género en la educación universitaria: El caso de los grados en turismo en Cataluña

La Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) y la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) abogan por el logro de un trabajo justo y, lentamente, las organizaciones (aunque no todas) muestran interés en ofrecer a su capital humano trabajos más adaptados a sus necesidades y motivaciones. La actividad turística, uno de los principales sectores económicos mundiales empleadores, no cuenta con una definición globalmente aceptada del concepto trabajo justo. Es por esta razón, que la presente investigación, busca definir el concepto de trabajo justo y evaluar el grado de conocimiento de la Certificación de Hoteles Responsables de Trabajo Justo (HJLR) de los empleados y de las empleadas del sector hotelero. Se utiliza una metodología mixta para analizar los datos primarios del estudio de caso de la ciudad de Barcelona. Para ello, se lleva a cabo una encuesta a empleados de base del sector hotelero, y por otro lado, se realizan entrevistas en profundidad con directivos de diferentes departamentos de hoteles de la ciudad condal. Los resultados ilustran, por un lado, que el trabajo justo es el que posibilita el bienestar personal y profesional del empleado, y, por otro lado, que la implementación real de iniciativas como las certificaciones HJLR es poco efectiva y acaban siendo estrategias de socialwashing.
