Randomized controlled trial of occupational performance coaching for mothers of children with cerebral palsy

Metabolomics studies of diseases associated with chronic alcohol consumption provide compelling evidence of several perturbed metabolic pathways. Moreover, the holistic approach of such studies gives insights into the pathophysiological risk factors associated with chronic alcohol-induced disability, morbidity and mortality. Here, we report on a GC-MS-based organic acid profiling study on acute alcohol consumption. Our investigation - involving 12 healthy, moderate-drinking young men - simulated a single binge drinking event, and indicated its metabolic consequences. We generated time-dependent data that predicted the metabolic pathophysiology of the alcohol intervention. Multivariate statistical modelling was applied to the longitudinal data of 120 biologically relevant organic acids, of which 13 provided statistical evidence of the alcohol effect. The known alcohol-induced increased NADH:NAD+ ratio in the cytosol of hepatocytes contributed to the global dysregulation of several metabolic reactions of glycolysis, ketogenesis, the Krebs cycle and gluconeogenesis. The significant presence of 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid supports the emerging paradigm that this compound is an important endogenous metabolite. Its metabolic origin remains elusive, but recent evidence indicated 2-hydroxyisobutyrylation as a novel regulatory modifier of histones. Metabolomics has thus opened an avenue for further research on the reprogramming of metabolic pathways and epigenetic networks in relation to the severe effects of alcohol consumption.

Most all of earth and space science concepts are unobservable and require reasoning. Unobservable concepts have made prospective physics teachers found it hard to understand the concepts correctly. It needs visualization to help understand the concepts easily. The aim of this study was to enhance the mastery concept of earth science topic especially the earth atmosphere using interactive conceptual with visualizations and authentic data analysis with GrADS (Grid Analysis Display System). There were 23 prospective physics teachers in Bengkulu, Indonesia participated in this study. A convenience sampling technique was employed in this study. This study used pre-experimental, one group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected using pretest and posttest, questionnaires, and observation sheets. The pretest and posttest were analyzed quantitatively, while the questionnaires were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the prospective physics teachersâ€™ concept mastery improved from no mastery to compete with the average normalized gain of 0.64 (medium category). 30.44% of the prospective physics teachers obtained the N-gain score in the high category and 69.56% obtained the N-gain score in the moderate category. This compilation gave them experience about the real condition of solar radiation in Indonesian atmosphere during their learning activity. It concluded that the earth science learning using interactive conceptual instruction supported by visualization and GrADS could enhance the studentsâ€™ concept mastery.

Enhancing Mastery of Earth Science Concept of Prospective Physics Teachers through Interactive Conceptual Instruction Supported by Visualization and GrADS

A common challenge in citizen science projects is gaining and retaining participants. At the same time, the tertiary education sector is constantly being challenged to provide more meaningful and practical work for students. Can participation in citizen science projects be used as coursework with real practical experiential-learning benefits, without affecting the citizen science project outcomes? We seek to begin to answer this question via a case study analysis with Cyclone Center (CC), which asks participants to classify tropical cyclone characteristics through analysis of infrared satellite imagery. Skill of individual users has previously been shown to be obtainable once classifiers have looked at approximately 200 images using an expectation-maximisation likelihood approach. We use skill scores to determine if participation for course credit or altruism influenced skill for volunteers and students from two universities under three increasingly complex categories of classifications (eye or no eye; stronger, weaker, or the same; and which of six fundamental storm types). Assessing Citizen Science Participation Skill for Altruism or University Course Credit: A Case Study Analysis Using Cyclone Center

The purpose of this paper is to implement the combined approach of Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and system dynamic (SD) for examining the impacts of several elements on the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices in the furniture industry concerning the amount of wood waste resulted and the demand of wood materials.,The paper develops an SD-based model by using four approaches, i.e., “demand of furniture”, “raw material”, “revenue of furniture industry” and “the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices”.,The simulation results have shown that the best conditions occur in the fourth scenario or a combined scenario. This scenario can guarantee a decrease in need of wood and discarded wood waste due to the use of wood waste for raw material by some industries. This scenario can thus increase the share of wood waste used as raw materials.,The first limitation of this study is on the calculation of the amount of wood, which has used the data of wood products obtained from the Central Java Provincial Agency of the Environment and Forestry. This calculation has not taken into account the forest area degradation. Second, the demand for furniture has been converted from the historical data of domestic and foreign sales. Third, the model used in this study has not considered the decrease of the production cost and the increase of the profit gained by the wooden furniture small- and medium-sized enterprises that use the wood waste as part of their raw material.,This research provides essential insights into the context of implementing the policies to increase the implementation of GSCM practices.,This research can make a difference in two aspects. First, it has tested policies, not in isolation. It has simultaneously tested various combinations of policies because the furniture industry can be seen as a system with complex relationships among the elements. Second, this study can broaden scientific insights related to the use of the DEMATEL method in the SD methodology.

Policy making for GSCM implementation in the wooden furniture industry: A DEMATEL and system dynamics approach

This article investigates the strength and limitation of t-test and Wilcoxon Sign Rank test procedures on paired samples from related population. These tests are conducted under different scenario whether or not the basic parametric assumptions are met for different sample sizes. Hypothesis testing on equality of means require assumptions to be made about the format of the data to be employed. The test may depend on the assumption that a sample comes from a distribution in a particular family. Since there is doubt about the nature of data, non-parametric tests like Wilcoxon signed rank test and Sign test are employed. Random samples were simulated from normal, gamma, uniform and exponential distributions. The three tests procedures were applied on the simulated data sets at various sample sizes (small, moderate and large) and their Type I error and power of the test were studied in both situations under study.
