Journal ArticleDOI
DUrable polymer-based sTent CHallenge of Promus ElemEnt versus ReSolute integrity (DUTCH PEERS): Rationale and study design of a randomized multicenter trial in a Dutch all-comers population
Kenneth Tandjung,Mounir W.Z. Basalus,Hanim Sen,Gillian A.J. Jessurun,Peter W. Danse,Martin G. Stoel,Gerard C.M. Linssen,Anita Derks,Ton T. van Loenhout,Mark B. Nienhuis,Raymond W.M. Hautvast,Clemens von Birgelen,Clemens von Birgelen +12 more
TL;DR: This is the first randomized multicenter trial with a head-to-head comparison of Promus Element and Resolute Integrity to investigate the safety and efficacy of these third-generation DES.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of frequency of periprocedural myocardial infarction in patients with and without diabetes mellitus to those with previously unknown but elevated glycated hemoglobin levels (from the TWENTE Trial).
Kenneth Tandjung,K.G. van Houwelingen,Hanneke Jansen,Hanneke Jansen,Mounir W.Z. Basalus,Hanim Sen,Marije M. Löwik,Martin G. Stoel,J. (Hans) W. Louwerenburg,F.H.A.F. De Man,Gerard C.M. Linssen,Rogier Lg Nijhuis,Mark B. Nienhuis,van der Jacobus Palen,van der Jacobus Palen,Ronald P. Stolk,C. von Birgelen,C. von Birgelen +17 more
TL;DR: In patients without a history of diabetes mellitus, increased levels of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) are associated with higher cardiovascular risk, and undetected diabetics were shown to have an increased risk of PMI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polymer coatings on drug-eluting stents: Samson’s hair and Achilles’ heel?
TL;DR: Drug-eluting stents minimise the risk of in-stent restenosis by means of controlled, local delivery of antiproliferative drugs from a thin layer of coating applied to a rigid stent backbone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Benchside testing of drug-eluting stent surface and geometry
TL;DR: Light is shed on benchside testing of DES that permits the identification, classification and quantification of various coating irregularities, both after gentle stent deployment and high-pressure postdilatation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary artery dominance and the risk of adverse clinical events following percutaneous coronary intervention: insights from the prospective, randomised TWENTE trial
Ming Kai Lam,Kenneth Tandjung,Hanim Sen,Mounir W.Z. Basalus,K. Gert van Houwelingen,Martin G. Stoel,J. (Hans) W. Louwerenburg,Gerard C.M. Linssen,Salah A.M. Saïd,Mark B. Nienhuis,Frits H.A.F. de Man,Job van der Palen,Clemens von Birgelen +12 more
TL;DR: In the population of the TWENTE trial, the authors observed a higher incidence of periprocedural myocardial infarction in patients who had left coronary dominance, and left dominance independently predicted PMI.
