Cardiac disease treatments are often being subjected to the acquisition and analysis of vast quantity of digital cardiac data. These data can be utilized for various beneficial purposes. These data’s utilization becomes more important when we are dealing with critical diseases like a heart attack where patient life is often at stake. Machine learning and deep learning are two famous techniques that are helping in making the raw data useful. Some of the biggest problems that arise from the usage of the aforementioned techniques are massive resource utilization, extensive data preprocessing, need for features engineering, and ensuring reliability in classification results. The proposed research work presents a cost-effective solution to predict heart attack with high accuracy and reliability. It uses a UCI dataset to predict the heart attack via various machine learning algorithms without the involvement of any feature engineering. Moreover, the given dataset has an unequal distribution of positive and negative classes which can reduce performance. The proposed work uses a synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) to handle given imbalance data. The proposed system discarded the need of feature engineering for the classification of the given dataset. This led to an efficient solution as feature engineering often proves to be a costly process. The results show that among all machine learning algorithms, SMOTE-based artificial neural network when tuned properly outperformed all other models and many existing systems. The high reliability of the proposed system ensures that it can be effectively used in the prediction of the heart attack.

As data size increases drastically, its variety also increases. Investigating such heterogeneous data is one of the most challenging tasks in information management and data analytics. The heterogeneity and decentralization of data sources affect data visualization and prediction, thereby influencing analytical results accordingly. Data harmonization (DH) corresponds to a field that unifies the representation of such a disparate nature of data. Over the years, multiple solutions have been developed to minimize the heterogeneity aspects and disparity in formats of big-data types. In this study, a systematic review of the literature was conducted to assess the state-of-the-art DH techniques. This study aimed to understand the issues faced due to heterogeneity, the need for DH and the techniques that deal with substantial heterogeneous textual datasets. The process produced 1355 articles, but among them, only 70 articles were found to be relevant through inclusion and exclusion criteria methods. The result shows that the heterogeneity of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured (SSU) data can be managed by using DH and its core techniques, such as text preprocessing, Natural Language Preprocessing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL). These techniques are applied to many real-world applications centered on the information-retrieval domain. Several assessment criteria were implemented to measure the efficiency of these techniques, such as precision, recall, F-1, accuracy, and time. A detailed explanation of each research question, common techniques, and performance measures is also discussed. Lastly, we present readers with a detailed discussion of the existing work, contributions, and managerial and academic implications, along with the conclusion, limitations, and future research directions.

Data Harmonization for Heterogeneous Datasets: A Systematic Literature Review

With the increasing day-to-day acceptance of IOT computing, the issues related to it are also getting more attention. The current IOT computing infrastructure brings some security challenges concerned with the users/customers and CSP. The users can store their confidential data at IOT storage and can access them anytime when they need. Lack of trust exists among IOT users and between IOT users and CSP. The prevention of this risk is a big research issue and it needs to be solved. There is a need for trusted IOT computing in recent times to provide trusted services. Here, we propose the integration of TPM in IOT computing to performs cryptographic operations and provide hardware-based security. In this domain, different schemes and methods have been proposed to build trust in IOT computing, but the suitable solution has not been presented by these schemes because these schemes lack in terms of some security services. A comparative study based on trusted computing schemes has also been presented in this paper along with different implementations of critical analysis. Our study is based on an overview of the main issues and summarizing the literature along with their strengths and limitations. In the end, we integrated the trusted platform module in the IOT architecture to establish the trust in IOT computing and to enhance the cybersecurity challenges and evaluated it with the help of mathematical/algorithms/graph theory/matrices and logical diagrams.

Establishment of Trust in Internet of Things by Integrating Trusted Platform Module: To Counter Cybersecurity Challenges

Transcriptomic analysis is crucial for understanding the functional elements of the genome, with the classic method consisting of screening transcriptomics datasets for differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Additionally, since 2005, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) has emerged as a powerful method to explore relationships between genes. However, an approach combining both methods, i.e., filtering the transcriptome dataset by DEGs or other criteria, followed by WGCNA (DEGs + WGCNA), has become common. This is of concern because such approach can affect the resulting underlying architecture of the network under analysis and lead to wrong conclusions. Here, we explore a plot twist to transcriptome data analysis: applying WGCNA to exploit entire datasets without affecting the topology of the network, followed with the strength and relative simplicity of DEG analysis (WGCNA + DEGs). We tested WGCNA + DEGs against DEGs + WGCNA to publicly available transcriptomics data in one of the most transcriptomically complex tissues and delicate processes: vertebrate gonads undergoing sex differentiation. We further validate the general applicability of our approach through analysis of datasets from three distinct model systems: European sea bass, mouse, and human.In all cases, WGCNA + DEGs clearly outperformed DEGs + WGCNA. First, the network model fit and node connectivity measures and other network statistics improved. The gene lists filtered by each method were different, the number of modules associated with the trait of interest and key genes retained increased, and GO terms of biological processes provided a more nuanced representation of the biological question under consideration. Lastly, WGCNA + DEGs facilitated biomarker discovery.We propose that building a co-expression network from an entire dataset, and only thereafter filtering by DEGs, should be the method to use in transcriptomic studies, regardless of biological system, species, or question being considered.
