TL;DR: The protozoan Neospora caninum and the bacterium Brucella abortus are well-recognized causes of abortion in dairy cattle and results showed no significant difference with respect to geographical district, breed, and age.
Abstract: The protozoan Neospora caninum and the bacterium Brucella abortus are well-recognized causes of abortion in dairy cattle. Serum samples (n = 240) from aborting (n = 141) and at-risk (n = 99) animals from 5 herds with high abortion rates in Punjab Province, Pakistan, were tested for antibodies to N. caninum using monoclonal antibody–based ELISA and for antibodies to B. abortus using the serum agglutination test. Antibodies to N. caninum and B. abortus were detected in 105 (43.8%) and 135 (56.3%) cattle, respectively. Prevalences of antibodies to N. caninum and B. abortus were higher in aborting cows (46.8% and 76.6%, P 0.05). Sixty-six animals (27.5%) were seropositive to both N. caninum and B. abortus, and results showed no significant difference (P > 0.05) with respect to geographical district, breed, and age. This is the first report of N. caninum infection among dairy cattle herds in Pakistan.

TL;DR: In this paper, the existence and the stability of Phillips curve for North Cyprus, a small developing economy, using time series data was explored and the ADF unit root test was employed to check for stationarity.
Abstract: The paper explores the existence and the stability of Phillips curve for North Cyprus, a small developing economy, using time series data. ADF unit root test is employed to check for stationarity. ARDL and DOLS approaches to cointegration have been used to explore the long run relation and ECM to understand short run dynamics. The predictive properties DOLS are better than those of the conventional methods. The estimates point to the existence of Phillips curve both in the long and the short run. CUSUM and CUSUMsq tests confirm a stable relation.

TL;DR: This method is found a useful treatment for the non unio of femoral shaft fracture after intra medullary nailijng and gives a quick recovery from non union.
Abstract: To evaluate the results of augmentative plate fixation for femoral non union after intramedullary nailing. This study was conducted in the department of orthopaedic and Trauma KTH, Peshawar from December 1995 to December 2003. We have found this method a useful treatment for the non unio of femoral shaft fracture after intra medullary nailijng. Teh technique is simple and does not require any special instrument. it facilitates an early weight bearing and gives a quick recovery from non union.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that real GDP per capita is nonlinear stationary implying that shocks to economy by economic policies (external or internal) have permanent effects on real per capita GDP of SAARC countries.
Abstract: Using data for SAARC region, we found real GDP per capita is nonlinear stationary implying that shocks to economy by economic policies (external or internal) have permanent effects on real per capita GDP of SAARC countries. This finding reveals that classical growth model works better to boost economic growth in long run.

TL;DR: Most of the patients who sustain hip fracture have associated underlying osteoporosis, which if not treated can result in further fragility fractures, and there is a strong association between hip fracture and osteoporeosis that exists in these patients.
Abstract: Objective: To find out the frequency of osteoporosis in patients with hip fracture as measured by Quantitative Ultrasound of Calcaneal Bone. Material and Methods: We scanned 68 patients randomly with Sahara Clinical Bone Sonometer from Orthopedic Department of Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar with low energy hip fracture in male and females of age 30 and above. The study took six months from January2004 to June 2004. Two main variables in the study were the age and sex. The patients were grouped separately for either sex according to their ages and then divided into age groups as; young age (30-49 years), middle age (50-69 years) and old age (70years & above). Results: Out of total sixty eight patients with fracture of the hip, 52 were female and 16 were male. Out of the 52(76.47%) female, 36(69.23%) were osteoporotic and 16(30.77%) were osteopenic. In the remaining 16(23.52%) male patients 9(56.25%) were osteoporotic and 7(43.75%) were osteopenic. Thus there is a strong association between hip fracture and osteoporosis that exists in these patients. Conclusion: Most of the patients who sustain hip fracture have associated underlying osteoporosis, which if not treated can result in further fragility fractures.

TL;DR: The results obtained in this study demonstrates that the prevalence of PI animals in dairy herds of Prince Edward Island is similar to that, reported from other surveys carried out in other countries.
Abstract: The prevalence of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) persistency was examined in 12 Holstein dairy herds in Charlottetown, Canada, from Feb. 2009 to Oct. 2009. A total of 469 serum and ear notch biopsy pairs were collected. Depending upon the age and vaccination status, the sampled animals were divided into three groups, A, B1 and B2. Group A consisted of 146 animals originating from 4 herds (≤ 6 month of age, FN1, FN2, FN3, FN4), group B1 comprised 267 animals representing 5 vaccinated herds against BVDV (≥ 6 months of age, FV1, FV2, FV3, FV4, FV5), whereas, 56 samples were taken from 3 BVDV non-vaccinated herds of group B2 (≥ 6 months of age, FN5, FN6, FN7). All the animals were pre-screened through serum neutralization test (SNT), whereas, all ear notch biopsies of group A (n =146) and only of those animals of group B1 (n = 15) and B2 (n = 37) which had SN titer ≤ 1:64 were processed to confirm the BVDV persistent infection. Only five animals were found positive originating from group A (n = 3) and B1 (n = 2) during first sampling. Upon follow up testing, two animals from each of group A and B1 remained positive confirming persistent infection (PI). A prevalence of 0.85% and 2.03% was observed in all the collected and pre screened animals, respectively. The results obtained in this study, demonstrates that the prevalence of PI animals in dairy herds of Prince Edward Island is similar to that, reported from other surveys carried out in other countries. This prevalence PI animals with BVDV in Holstein dairy herds of Charlottetown, Canada, reveal the necessity of further studying BVDV infection in the area.
