Este estudo objetivou conhecer a prevalencia de sintomas de disturbios osteomusculares em bancarios de Pelotas e regiao e investigar fatores associados. O estudo foi transversal e os dados foram coletados atraves de questionario auto-aplicado no local de trabalho. O desfecho foi relato de dor osteomuscular com frequencia em tres ou mais de dez regioes anatomicas (Questionario Nordico de Sintomas Osteomusculares - QNSO). De 502 bancarios estudados, 60% da amostra mencionaram dor musculo-esqueletica no ultimo ano, 43% referiram nos ultimos sete dias, 19% tiveram que evitar o trabalho devido as dores e 40% relacionaram esta dor com a atividade que realiza no seu trabalho. Dor com frequencia foi relatada por 39% dos bancarios. Maiores prevalencias foram observadas em mulheres, pessoas que nao praticavam atividade fisica, usuarios de terminal on-line e maquinas autenticadoras, aqueles que referiram seu ritmo de trabalho como "acelerado", aqueles que trabalhavam na maior parte do tempo sentados e aqueles que classificaram seu ambiente de trabalho como "inadequado".

Stress is a health problem common both in the professional and personal spheres and has many causes. This study investigated the impact of some personal variables on levels of stress and quality of life in a sample of 106 male and female adults who were attending an outpatient psychology clinic. Mean age average was 38.5 years. Participants were classified according to profession and evaluated through a Quality of Life Inventory and the Lipp Stress Symptom Inventory. Results indicated that 88% of the participants had high stress level and quality of life was compromised, especially in terms of health. A significant association between stress and gender was found, but not between job position and inferred level of stress. There was compatibility between self-diagnosis of stress and clinical diagnosis.

This study aimed to investigate potential psychological distress among members of the civilian police force, based on gender differences. It analyzes data from previous research on work, health conditions, and quality of life in the civilian police using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study included and tested data from the questionnaire applied to a statistically representative sample of 2,746 civilian police (80.8% males and 19.2% females) from the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to gender variables and position in the police force (administrative, technical, and operational law enforcement). The study presents an overview of social and economic characteristics, job conditions, health problems, and quality of life, highlighting the areas of information where gender appears as an important factor. The Self-Reported Questionnaire (SRQ-20) was used to investigate psychological distress comparing males and females. The results did not show gender differences in psychological distress, but did identify significant differences in some items in the scale. Female police, especially in technical positions, showed a higher proportion than males. The conclusions corroborate some previous research.

Sofrimento psíquico entre policiais civis: uma análise sob a ótica de gênero

This research had the objective to examine the occurrence of stress among 27 master students of health sciences of the Universidade Federal de Sergipe [Federal University of Sergipe], of which 16 were women and 11 were men. And, it also sought to delineate the coping strategies used to deal with the stress and the stressors perceived by the graduate students. Lipp's Stress Symptoms for Adults Inventory, the Ways to Confront Problems Scale and a questionary about possible stressors were used. The results indicated that 40,7% of subjects had stress and that there was an association between stress and sex (p<0,05), showing that women were more vulnerable to stress. The association between sex and the main coping strategies used by the participants that didn't have stress (p<0,05) was verified, showing that focalizing on the problem was a more frequent strategy among men. We believe that more investigation on this topic is important, because the performance of master level students may be influenced by the stress during graduate education.

Trabalho, saúde e gênero: estudo comparativo sobre analistas de sistemas Work and health: a gender study on systems analysts

OBJETIVO: Avaliar as repercussoes do trabalho de mulheres e homens analistas de sistemas na saude. METODOS: Trata-se de estudo exploratorio de delineamento transversal, abrangendo 553 analistas de duas empresas de processamento de dados da regiao metropolitana de Sao Paulo. Foram realizadas analises ergonomicas do trabalho, entrevistas semi-estruturadas e preenchimento de questionarios para auto-aplicacao. A analise dos dados baseou-se em tabelas de contingencia com qui-quadrado a 5% de significância e razoes de prevalencia e seus intervalos de confianca segundo genero. RESULTADOS: As mulheres constituiram 40,7% do grupo estudado, sendo mais jovens que os homens. A presenca de filhos foi maior entre os homens, embora o tempo diario dedicado as tarefas domesticas tenha sido maior entre as mulheres. Observou-se predominio dos homens nas funcoes de chefia. Fatores de incomodo, com frequencia semelhante entre homens e mulheres, foram: sobrecarga de trabalho devido a prazos curtos; alto grau de responsabilidade; exigencia mental do trabalho; e complexidade da tarefa. Fatores de incomodo predominantes em mulheres foram: postura desconfortavel; maior exposicao ao computador; e presenca de equipamento obsoleto. As mulheres relataram maior frequencia de sintomas visuais, musculares e relacionados a estresse; maior insatisfacao com o trabalho; maior fadiga fisica e mental. CONCLUSOES: O estudo sugere que as repercussoes na saude das analistas de sistemas estao associadas as exigencias do trabalho e ao papel da mulher na sociedade. Os resultados destacam a importância de estudos sobre saude, trabalho e genero, em analisar a intersecao entre a esfera produtiva e a domestica.

To assess the health impact of working conditions among male and female systems analysts. In this cross-sectional study 533 systems analysts of two data analysis companies located in the metropolitan area of Sao Paulo were studied. Data was collected using work ergonomic assessments individual and group semi-structured interviews and a self-applied questionnaire. Data analysis was based on contingency tables Chisquare values at 5% level prevalence rates and ratios and their 95% confidence intervals. Of the participants 40.7% were women who on average were younger that the studied men (59.6% of women and 39% of men were in the age range 25 to 34). Though fatherhood was more frequently seen among men (57.6% x 34.2% for women) women spent more time with household tasks including children care. There were more men in leading management positions. Work-related discomfort factors were seen in both sexes at similar frequencies. Men most commonly complained of work overload due to tight deadlines high degree of responsibility mental strain and work complexity. Women more frequently complained of postural discomfort higher exposure to video display terminal and obsolete equipment. Women reported more visual musculoskeletal and stress related symptoms and higher work dissatisfaction and mental fatigue. The study suggests that the health impact on female systems analysts is associated with the work demands and the women’s social role. There is a need of further studies associating health work and gender and an assessment of the intersection between the domestic and productive roles. (authors)
