Journal ArticleDOI

Critical energy deficits during the field ionization and proton capture of noble gases at rhodium and tungsten field emitters

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that the appearance potentials of rare gas ions displayed no detectable field dependence and showed that energy deficits are not influenced by polarization energies, and that the local potential at the point of formation, rather than the energetics of the process, determined the critical energy loss of the field ions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Field dependence of critical energy deficits during the field ionization of ammonia

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the field ion critical energy deficit of NH3+ and NH4+ formed at a rhodium-tip emitter and found that the critical energy deficiency was correlated with the appearance potential AP of field ionized ammonia (10.2 ± 0.1 eV).
