Journal ArticleDOI

Possible origin of a B chromosome deduced from its DNA composition using double FISH technique

TL;DR: The double FISH technique showed that the B chromosome (B2 type) is mainly composed of a 180 bp tandem repeat and ribosomal DNA, the minute short arm being the only region that does not hybridize with them.
Journal ArticleDOI

rRNA gene activity and control of expression mediated by methylation and imprinting during embryo development in wheat x rye hybrids.

TL;DR: Treatment during germination with the cytosine analogue 5-azacytidine stably reactivate the expression of the suppressed rRNA genes of rye origin in the wheat x rye amphiploid, triticale hybrids by preventing methylation of sites in the rye rDNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

5-Methylcytosine distribution and genome organization in triticale before and after treatment with 5-azacytidine.

TL;DR: Using genomic in situ hybridization with rye DNA as a probe, it was found the chromosomes of the R genome were not intermixed with the wheat chromosomes in 85% of nuclei, which correlates with previous data showing that expression of R-genome rRNA genes is activated by 5-AC treatment and remains partially activated in the next generation.
