Current options for the valorization of food manufacturing waste: a review
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present feasibility and constraints of applying industrial symbiosis in recovering waste from food processing, focusing on recycling (excluding energy recovery) of the solid and liquid waste from the food processing industry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beyond the throwaway society: A life cycle-based assessment of the environmental benefit of reuse
TL;DR: To appraise the environmental benefits related to reuse of goods, a methodology adopting life cycle assessment (LCA) has been developed, identifying reference products within product category subject to reuse, and collecting reliable inventory data as a basis for calculating environmental impact through LCA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessing eco-innovations in green chemistry: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a cosmetic product with a bio-based ingredient
TL;DR: In this article, a case study in which synthetic ingredients are replaced by others derived from natural compounds, following green chemistry principles, is presented, where a C16-18 triglycerides mixture (INCI name "palmitic/stearic triglycerides" derived from olive oil industry by-products is used both as single ingredient (Innovation I) and as part of a pre-formulated one (innovation II), replacing the starting formulation (Benchmark) caprylic/capric triglyceride.
Journal ArticleDOI
Life cycle assessment of bio-based products: a disposable diaper case study
TL;DR: In this article, a life cycle assessment of a bioplastic based diaper was performed to evaluate the environmental benefits gained through eco-innovation, while identifying further areas of improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strategies to Improve the Energy Performance of Buildings: A Review of Their Life Cycle Impact
Nadia Mirabella,Martin Röck,Marcella Ruschi Mendes Saade,Carolin Spirinckx,Marc Bosmans,Karen Allacker,Alexander Passer +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a literature review is driven by six fundamental and specific research questions (RQs), and performed based on two main tasks: (i) selection of literature studies, and (ii) critical analysis of the selected studies in line with the RQs.
