Although cinnoline belongs to a family of fairly well known heterocycles, the interest in the study of its derivatives continues. Cinnoline compounds demonstrate interesting bioactivity and many research papers have discussed the biological property, structure-activity relationship, and applications in medicinal science. Attention has been paid to the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds bearing a cinnoline moiety, mainly because of the interest in their broad spectrum of pharmacological activities. This chronological work summarizes almost all synthetic papers and patents concerning the biological properties of 107 cinnoline derivatives published over the last 50 years with 117 references.

A shelf-stable, liquid whitening composition having a whitening agent and a stabilizing system are disclosed. The stabilizing system includes a gum component, preferably of a mixture of two different gum, present in an amount sufficient to suspend the whitening agent in the liquid whitening composition and in an aqueous media to which the liquid whitening composition is added, an emulsifier in an amount sufficient to maintain emulsion stability in the liquid whitening composition and in the aqueous media, and a cellulose component, preferably of a blend of a microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose blend, in an amount sufficient to help maintain suspension and emulsion stability of the liquid whitening composition alone and in the aqueous media. The stabilizing system maintains the liquid whitener in a homogeneous state for at least about 9 months at ambient temperatures, and further maintains the whitening composition in suspension when added to the aqueous media.

PURPOSE:To prepare the d-isomer of 2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid, useful as medicine, in high optical purity in an industrial scale, easily and economicaly by optical resolution of d,l-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid with L-(-)-alpha-phenylethylamine. CONSTITUTION:d-2-(6-Methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid expressed by the formula is prepared by optical resolution of d,l-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid with L-(-)-alpha-phenylethylamine. The resolution is carried out as follows. The acid and the amine (0.5-1.0mol on the basis of 1mol of the acid) are dissolved in a solvent. Preferably the solvent is the one which completely dissolves both compounds but poorly dissolves the formed salt, and a preferable example is the mixed solvent of methanol and ethyl acetate. The amine salt of the acid rich in the d-isomer slowly precipitates when the reaction solution is left to stand at room temperatures for 0.5-48hr. The product is further treated with the hot methanol- ethyl acetate mixutre to increase the ratio of the d-isomer, and the salt is decomposed to give the desired product.
