An exploratory inquiry into destination risk perceptions and risk reduction strategies of first time vs. repeat visitors to a highly volatile destination

Purpose – In this paper the competitive landscape of financial institutions is shifting and internet banking is no longer a competitive advantage but a competitive necessity for banks. However, a limited number of empirical studies have been published in the marketing literature about electronic banking. This paper seeks to examine consumers' choices between electronic banking and non‐electronic banking in New Zealand.Design/methodology/approach – The paper shows that the data for this analysis were obtained through a mail survey sent to 1,960 households in New Zealand. The decision to use electronic banking is hypothesised to be a function of service quality dimensions, perceived risk factors, user input factors, price factors, service product characteristics, individual factors and demographic variables such as age, gender, marital status, income, etc. Logistic regression is used to analyse the data. A logit analysis of electronic banking in New Zealand

Despite the growing prevalence of smartphones in daily life and travel context, travellers still perceive an extent of risk associated with using their smartphone to book travel products In order to alleviate or reduce perceived risk, it is important to better understand the dimensions of and the factors that contribute to perceived risk This study analysed 411 responses from an online panel to examine perceived risk in mobile travel booking and identified the following facets: time risk, financial risk, performance risk, privacy/security risk, psychological risk, physical risk, and device risk Several antecedents of perceived risk were identified Perceived collection of personal information via smartphones contributes positively, while consumer innovativeness, trust, and visibility contribute negatively to perceived risk Further, the predictive validity of perceived risk is confirmed as it significantly explains perceived usefulness, attitude, and behavioural intention in mobile travel booking Implications to manage perceived risk and its antecedents are provided

Multidimensional Facets of Perceived Risk in Mobile Travel Booking

The Mobility as a Service (MaaS) concept has recently taken the transport industry by storm. However, as applications and research on it are limited, there is still little evidence on what this new phenomenon could bring to the transport sector. This paper aims to provide initial insights into whether MaaS product bundles (monthly subscription plans) can be used as a mobility management tool to promote shared modes. Data from an original survey, specifically designed to study MaaS plans, was used with Greater London as the case study area. The results show, that even though respondents do not prefer shared modes in their MaaS plans, a significant number of them are willing to subscribe to plans that include these modes. Once they have subscribed, over 60% of them indicated that they would be willing to try transportation modes that they previously did not use if their MaaS plans included them. These initial results show evidence that MaaS bundles can indeed be used as a mobility management tool to introduce more travelers to shared modes.

The potential of mobility as a service bundles as a mobility management tool

Consumers’ perceived risk is a significant barrier to the adoption of new high-tech products. Based on a review of the marketing, consumer behavior and psychology literatures, a theoretical framework is developed here that suggests how bundling a new high-tech product with an existing technology could help reduce consumers’ perceived risk associated with the purchase of the new high-tech product. This manuscript also explores what factors influence consumers’ risk perception when a product bundle is available. Managers might use this framework to develop bundling strategies for high-tech products, and to understand what factors make such bundles more attractive.
