TL;DR: This systematic review aimed to establish the alternative methodologies used in estimating AMR burden in order to appraise the current evidence base and highlight what methodological assumptions and biases can occur dependent on chosen outcome and perspective.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying drivers of antibiotic resistance in humans: a systematic review
Anuja Chatterjee,Maryam Modarai,Nichola R. Naylor,Sara E Boyd,Sara E Boyd,Sara E Boyd,Rifat Atun,Rifat Atun,James Barlow,Alison Holmes,Alison Holmes,Alan P. Johnson,Alan P. Johnson,Julie V. Robotham,Julie V. Robotham +14 more
TL;DR: A systematic review using a One Health approach to survey the key drivers of antibiotic resistance in humans is presented in this article, where the odds ratios of resistance were primarily reported to be between 2 and 4 for these risk factors when compared with their respective controls or baseline risk groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
The health and cost burden of antibiotic resistant and susceptible Escherichia coli bacteraemia in the English hospital setting: A national retrospective cohort study.
Nichola R. Naylor,Koen B. Pouwels,Koen B. Pouwels,Russell Hope,Nathan Green,Katherine L. Henderson,Gwenan M. Knight,Rifat Atun,Rifat Atun,Julie V. Robotham,Julie V. Robotham,Sarah R Deeny +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the burden of E. coli bacteraemia and associated antibiotic resistance in the secondary care setting was estimated in the UK by using a cohort of 14,042 patients who were admitted to acute hospital in-patients between 2011 and 2012.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is antimicrobial stewardship cost-effective? A narrative review of the evidence.
Nichola R. Naylor,Nina Zhu,Marlies E J L Hulscher,Alison Holmes,Raheelah Ahmad,Julie V. Robotham +5 more
TL;DR: Although the evidence-base of the cost-effectiveness of AMS is increasing, it remains inadequate for investment decision-making and robust health economics research needs to be completed to enhance the generalizability and usability of cost-Effectiveness results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology and health-economic burden of urinary-catheter-associated infection in English NHS hospitals: a probabilistic modelling study.
David R M Smith,Koen B. Pouwels,Susan Hopkins,Susan Hopkins,Susan Hopkins,Nichola R. Naylor,Timo Smieszek,Julie V. Robotham +7 more
TL;DR: Hospital catheter prevention is poised to reap substantial health-economic gains, but community-oriented interventions are needed to target the large burden imposed by community-onset infection.
