Arterial Stiffness and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease and Stroke: The Rotterdam Study
Francesco U.S. Mattace-Raso,Tischa J. M. van der Cammen,Albert Hofman,Nicole M. van Popele,Michiel L. Bos,Maarten A.D.H. Schalekamp,Roland Asmar,Robert S. Reneman,Arnold P.G. Hoeks,Monique M.B. Breteler,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman +10 more
TL;DR: Aortic pulse wave velocity is an independent predictor of coronary heart disease and stroke in apparently healthy subjects and carotid distensibility as measured in this study was not independently associated with cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between arterial stiffness and atherosclerosis: the Rotterdam Study
Nicole M. van Popele,Diederick E. Grobbee,Michiel L. Bots,Roland Asmar,Jirar Topouchian,Robert S. Reneman,Arnold P.G. Hoeks,Deidre A. M. van der Kuip,Albert Hofman,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman +9 more
TL;DR: This population-based study shows that arterial stiffness is strongly associated with atherosclerosis at various sites in the vascular tree.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arterial Stiffness as Underlying Mechanism of Disagreement Between an Oscillometric Blood Pressure Monitor and a Sphygmomanometer
Nicole M. van Popele,Willem Jan W. Bos,Nicole A. M. de Beer,Deirdre A. M. van der Kuip,A. Hofman,Diederick E. Grobbee,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that a Dinamap oscillometric blood pressure device, in comparison to a random-zero sphygmomanometer, overestimates systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings in subjects with stiff arteries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aortic stiffness is associated with atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries in older adults: the Rotterdam Study.
Nicole M. van Popele,Francesco U.S. Mattace-Raso,Rozemarijn Vliegenthart,Diederick E. Grobbee,Roland Asmar,Deirdre A. M. van der Kuip,Albert Hofman,Pim J. de Feijter,Matthijs Oudkerk,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman +9 more
TL;DR: In this large population-based study performed in elderly subjects aortic stiffness was strongly and independently associated with coronary atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late-life depression is associated with arterial stiffness: a population-based study.
Henning Tiemeier,Monique M.B. Breteler,Nicole M. van Popele,Albert Hofman,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman +4 more
TL;DR: To determine whether arterial stiffness is associated with depression in the elderly, a large number of elderly patients with a history of depression have had arterial stiffening problems.
