Journal Article

Outcome and prognostic factors during the course of primary small-vessel vasculitides.

TL;DR: GI involvement increases the risk of relapse in CSS, whereas the prognostic significance of nasal S. aureus in terms of relapse seems to be opposite in patients with CSS and those with WG, where patients with cerebral, hepatic, and renal involvement have the poorest prognosis for survival.
Journal ArticleDOI

Skeletal muscle energetics, acid-base equilibrium and lactate metabolism in patients with severe hypercapnia and hypoxemia.

TL;DR: It is suggested that an overall derangement of cell energy metabolism and acid-base equilibrium is present in severely hypercapnic-hypoxemic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and that in this condition skeletal muscle seems to metabolize anaerobically-even though, in addition to hypoxia, other factors interfering with both cell energy and lactate metabolism are likely to be present.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hypophosphatemia in course of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Prevalence, mechanisms, and relationships with skeletal muscle phosphorus content.

TL;DR: The present investigation revealed a high prevalence of hypophosphatemia among COPD patients as well as a defect in renal phosphate reabsorption secondary, at least in part, to pharmacologic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

β2-glycoprotein I, lipopolysaccharide and endothelial TLR4: Three players in the two hit theory for anti-phospholipid-mediated thrombosis

TL;DR: β2GPI interacts directly with TLR4 expressed on EC, and that such interaction may contribute to β1GPI-dependent aPL-mediated EC activation, and a threshold effect for the action of LPS, that is able to enhance anti-β2 GPI antibody EC binding only at cell activating concentrations.
