Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis, properties, and redox behavior of mono-, bis-, and tris[1,1,4,4,-tetracyano-2-(1-azulenyl)-3-butadienyl] chromophores binding with benzene and thiophene cores.
TL;DR: The redox behavior of novel azulene derivatives 12-17 was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltametry (DPV), which revealed multistep electrochemical reduction properties and a significant color change was observed by visible spectroscopy under Electrochemical reduction conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Creation of Stabilized Electrochromic Materials by Taking Advantage of Azulene Skeletons
Shunji Ito,Noboru Morita +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the structural principle of utilizing azulene skeletons as redox-active chromophores for the production of stabilized electrochromic materials is demonstrated in several examples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and two-electron redox behavior of diazuleno[2,1-a:1,2-c]naphthalenes.
Shunji Ito,Akiko Nomura,Noboru Morita,Chizuko Kabuto,Hirokazu Kobayashi,Seiko Maejima,Kunihide Fujimori,Masafumi Yasunami +7 more
TL;DR: The redox behavior of these novel diazuleno[2,1-a:1,2-c]naphthalenes was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), which revealed the formation of a radical cation and dication stabilized by the fused two azulene rings under the electrochemical oxidation conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and properties of hexakis(6-octyl-2-azulenyl)benzene as a multielectron redox system with liquid crystalline behavior.
Shunji Ito,Mariko Ando,Akiko Nomura,Noboru Morita,Chizuko Kabuto,Hidetomo Mukai,Kazuchika Ohta,Jun Kawakami,and Atsushi Yoshizawa,Akio Tajiri +9 more
TL;DR: A new series of azulene derivatives, 1b, 2b, and 19, substituted by a long alkyl chain at the 6-position shows mesomorphism with crystalline polymorphs.
