Journal ArticleDOI

Serum lectin with known structure activates complement through the classical pathway.

TL;DR: The activation by serum MBP was inhibited effectively by the presence of haptenic sugars and dependent absolutely upon the presenceof C4, indicating that the activation is initiated by the sugar binding activity of MBP and proceeds through the classical pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antitumor activity of mannan-binding protein in vivo as revealed by a virus expression system: Mannan-binding proteindependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity

TL;DR: The results indicated that MBP has a previously undescribed cytotoxic activity, which is proposed to term MBP-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity(MDCC), which provides a model for the development of an effective and specific host defense factor for cancer gene therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glycosylation-Dependent Interactions of C-Type Lectin DC-SIGN with Colorectal Tumor-Associated Lewis Glycans Impair the Function and Differentiation of Monocyte-Derived Dendritic Cells

TL;DR: It is shown that DC-SIGN is involved in the interaction of DCs with SW1116 cells through the recognition of aberrantly glycosylated forms of Lea/Leb glycans on carcinoembryonic Ag (CEA) and CEA-related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mannan-binding protein and conglutinin in bovine serum.

TL;DR: The present study revealed that bovine plasma contained an MBP besides conglutinin, a lectin specific for mannose and N-acetylglucosamine that was very similar in their chemical and physicochemical properties as well as binding specificity.
