Golf clubs according to at least some example aspects of this disclosure may include a golf club head and a shaft configured to engage with the golf club head which includes a grip engaged with the shaft. Further, the golf club may include a monitoring device, which includes a sensor and a transmitter. Additionally, the monitoring device may be configured to determine data related to the characteristics of a golf swing. Further, the monitoring device may be configured to transmit the data related to the characteristics of a golf swing to a remote computer.

Polymers of one or more radical polymerisable monomers which polymer has pendant groups bearing a centre of permanent positive charge and other pendant groups capable of stably binding the polymer to a surface are useful in the treatment of surfaces to render them biocompatible. The polymers may contain pendant groups which bind the polymer to a surface by physisorption, covalent bonding or ionic interactions. Additionally reactive groups in the polymer may serve as points for attachment of ligands to the polymer when coated on a surface.

Tamarind seed is an underutilized byproduct of the tamarind pulp industry. Only a small portion of the seed, in the form of tamarind kernel powder (TKP), is used as a sizing material in the textile, paper, and jute industries. Though many applications of this seed are possible, there have been hardly any other uses for it including using it as an additive in food formulations. The excellent gelling cum adhesive characteristics of the decorticated seed powder can lead to several applications in food and pharmaceutical industries which are evident by the number of research papers as well as patent applications. This article thus focuses on the possibilities of using the seed in several food and non-food industries with particular reference to physical and engineering properties, hydration behavior, rheological properties, functional and nutritional characteristics, and the processing of the tamarind seed for wider applications.

Tamarind seed: properties, processing and utilization.

A method for making a biocompatible medical article, and preferably, a blood compatible medical article, through the use of a copolymer coating. The copolymer coating is synthesized using methacrylate or acrylate monomers with a functional group (primary amino group) for subsequent attachment of heparin. Synthesis of the copolymer coating is carried out using the proper proportion of hydrophobic monomer/hydrophilic monomer/functional monomer in order to optimize the solubility of the copolymer in alcohol, its insolubility in water (before and after heparin coupling), the heparin coupling efficacy and heparin bioactivity. Once the copolymer coating is fashioned, a medical article is coated with it. The coating is thereafter dried and heparin attached. In such a manner the present invention provides for a method for making a biocompatible medical article, and preferably, a blood compatible medical article.

Cross-linked copolymers which are obtainable by polymerising a neutral diluent monomer or monomers, a monomer or monomers bearing a centre of permanent positive charge, and a bifunctional and/or trifunctional cross-linking agent, are suitable for use in contact lenses. Process for producing them by copolymerisation, contact lens material comprising them, contact lenses made of them and processes for producing contact lenses from them.

PURPOSE: To obtain the title new copolymer suitable as a material such as artificial blood vessel, having excellent bioavailability, mechanical strength and moldability by copolymerizing methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine with a methacrylic acid ester. CONSTITUTION: 2-Methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine(MPC) is copolymerized with a methacrylic acid ester to give the aimed copolymer having a repeating unit shown by the formula [a is 0.03-0.7; b is 0.3-0.97; n is ≥2; R is H or OR' (R' is aliphatic hydrocarbon; aromatic hydrocarbon)] and ≥5,000 molecular weight. MPC, for example, is obtained by reacting 2-bromoethylphosphoryl dichloride with hydroxyethyl methacrylate and reacting the prepared 2- methacryloyloxyethyl 2'-bromoethyl phosphate with trimethylamine in a methanol solution. 2-methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine copolymer

PURPOSE:To suppress the adsorption of protein to antibody combination solid phase, antigen combination solid phase, or solid phase and then improve analysis accuracy without affecting a measurement system by a specific protein adsorption inhibitor. CONSTITUTION:A protein adsorption inhibitor containing 2- methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine(MPC) polymer and/or copolymer of MPC-containing constituent is used. The applicable range is the analysis method of living thing related substance where enzyme reaction or immunity or the antigen antibody reaction of immunity globulin are generally utilized. The MPC polymer and/or MPC copolymer using the protein adsorption inhibitor are the MPC individual polymer or a copolymer with other vinyl monomers and the NIPC content within the constituent of the polymer A is preferable 1-100mol.% and an average molar weight is preferable 1000-1,000,000. The inhibitor can be used by adding itself to a solvent medium where the polymer A can be dissolved, for example, phosphoric acid buffer solution, acetic buffer solution, and carbon buffer solution.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copolymer containing a phosphorylcholilne group- containing monomer and a silyl group-containing monomer as constituents, capable of being adhered to the surfaces of substrates such as a glass substrate by simple operations, having high durability and high biological adaptability, and useful as a material for medical treatments, etc. SOLUTION: This copolymer is obtained by randomly or alternately copolymerilzing a phosphorylcholine group-containing monomer of formula I [X is a divalent residual group; Y is a 1-16C alkyleneoxy; Z is H, R -0-CO (R is a 1-10C alkyl, etc.); (m) is 0-10; R is H, methyl; R -R are each H, a 1-6C hydroxyhydrocarbon] with a silyl group-containing monomer of formula II [w is -(CH2 )k (k is 0-4), etc.; R is H, methyl; R is a 1-10C alkoxy, a 6-14C aryloxy; R , R are each a 1-10C alkyl which may contain a halogen group], and has repeating units of formula III, uniformly distributed monomer constituent units (a, b), a number-average mol.wt. of 5,000-300,0000, and a (a):(b) ratio of 95:5 to 50:50.

Copolymer having phospholipid-like structure and medical material

PURPOSE: To obtain surface-modified powder, excellent in persistence of modifying effects without being readily eliminated and excellent in humectant properties and a cosmetic containing the powder. CONSTITUTION: This powder for a cosmetic is obtained by coating powders with a polymer prepared by polymerizing 2-methacryloyloxyethy1 phosphorylcholine(MPC) as one of monomers. On the other hand, this cosmetic contains the powder for the cosmetic obtained by coating thereof with the polymer prepared by polymerizing the MPC as one of the monomers and has makeup effects remarkably improved in humectant properties. PURPOSE: To obtain a solution improving contact lens wearing feel, excellent in contamination-proofness, hydrophilicity and safety, thus useful as artificial lacrima, etc., containing each specific polymer component, inorganic chloride, buffering agent and chelating agent at specified proportions. CONSTITUTION: This solution for contact lens contains (A) 0.01-5(w/v)% of a polymer component obtained by polymerizing a (meth)acrylate of the formula [R 1 is H or methyl: R 2 is (CH 2 CHR 4 ) n or (CH 2 CHR 4 O)-CH 2 CHR 4 (R 4 is H or methyl; (n) is 1-8); R 3 is an 1-8C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl] or copolymerizing this (meth)acrylate with a copolymerizable vinyl monomer, (B) 0.01-1.5(w/v)% of an inorganic chloride selected from sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride and mixtures thereof, (C) 0.01-1.5(w/v)% of a buffering agent such as hydrochloric acid and (D) 0-1.0(w/v)% of a chelating agent such as citric acid.
