Journal ArticleDOI
Pain management in the emergency department: patterns of analgesic utilization.
TL;DR: ED analgesia continues to be used less frequently in the pediatric compared with the adult population, and inadequate dosing of discharge analgesic medication in children is a significant problem.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initial urinary epinephrine and cortisol levels predict acute PTSD symptoms in child trauma victims
Douglas L. Delahanty,Douglas L. Delahanty,Nicole R. Nugent,Norman C. Christopher,Norman C. Christopher,Michele C. Walsh,Michele C. Walsh +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that high initial urinary cortisol and epinephrine levels immediately following a traumatic event may be associated with increased risk for the development of subsequent acute PTSD symptoms, especially in boys.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contamination rates of blood cultures obtained by dedicated phlebotomy vs intravenous catheter.
TL;DR: Blood culture contamination rates were lower when specimens were drawn from a separate site compared with when they were drawn through a newly inserted intravenous catheter, and young age was associated with increased contamination rate in both the baseline and postintervention periods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of nonpharmacologic methods of pain and anxiety management for laceration repair in the pediatric emergency department.
TL;DR: The use of distraction techniques is effective in reducing situational anxiety in older children and lowering parental perception of pain distress in younger children, and this technique may have a role in improving the quality of management of procedural pain in a pediatric ED setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective Multicenter Study of Bronchiolitis: Predicting Safe Discharges From the Emergency Department
Jonathan M. Mansbach,Sunday Clark,Norman C. Christopher,Frank LoVecchio,Sarah N. Kunz,Uchechi Acholonu,Carlos A. Camargo +6 more
TL;DR: This large multicenter study of children presenting to the emergency department with bronchiolitis identified several factors associated with safe discharge, including cut points for respiratory rate and oxygen saturation, including a good fit of the data.
