A traffic model for velocity data assimilation
Daniel B. Work,Sebastien Blandin,Olli Pekka Tossavainen,Benedetto Piccoli,Alexandre M. Bayen +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new scalar hyperbolic partial differential equation (PDE) model for traffic velocity evolution on highways, based on the seminal Lighthill-Whitham-Richards (LWR) PDE for density, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Computing travel times from filtered traffic states
TL;DR: It is illustrated that dynamic travel time estimates can be computed with less than 10% error regardless of the data source, and that existing inductive loop detector data can significantly improve the accuracy of travel time Estimates when GPS data is sparse.
A Framework for Analyzing the Sensitivity of Traffic Data Quality to Sensor Location and Spacing
J. D. Margulici,Xuegang Jeff Ban,Alexandre M. Bayen,Lianyu Chu,Adam Danczyk,Juan Herrera,Ryan Herring,Henry X. Liu,Olli Pekka Tossavainen,Daniel B. Work +9 more
TL;DR: This paper describes a framework and accompanying tools developed under sponsorship of the California Department of Transportation to study the sensitivity of traffic data quality to the location and spacing of traffic detectors and concludes that while model-based traffic estimation techniques are superior, the differences become negligible as detector density increases.
