The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of spiritual care on the perceived stress and mental health of the elderlies living in nursing home in Isfahan. This is a semi-experimental study with pretest and posttest design with control group. Ninety eligible elderlies living in the nursing home were divided into intervention and control groups through census and random allocation. The interventional spiritual care was conducted for the intervention group for 90 days. After conducting the spiritual care, the majority of the elderlies (62.22%) in the intervention group had a low perceived stress level and the majority of the subjects (64.44%) in the control group had a high perceived stress level. Therefore, after performing spiritual care, a significant difference was observed at the perceived stress level of the two groups (X2 = 3.22 and P = 0.001). The results of mental health level indicated that the mean score of the general health questionnaire was ranged between 10.95 and 27.2. After performing care, a significant difference was observed in mental health level of both groups, and 31.11% and 53.33% of the participants were suspected to general disorder in the intervention and control groups, respectively. Based on the results, there was a significant difference in the mental health level of both groups after the implementation of spiritual care (X2 = 6.56 and P = 0.001). Further, a significant negative correlation was found between the perceived stress and mental health (r = − 0.241 and P = 0.01). Considering the spiritual health as one of the health dimensions influencing the psychosocial variables of elderlies seems necessary. Policymakers and planners of health area contribute to the improvement of mental health level by using comprehensive care approach with an emphasis on the spiritual dimension of care for the elderly people.

The Effect of Spiritual Care on Perceived Stress and Mental Health Among the Elderlies Living in Nursing Home

Introduction and purpose: Increasing elderly population and problems of elderly, especially mental health status require special attention .The purpose of this study was to assess and compare mental health status and life satisfaction in retired elder ly of the JundiShapur University of medical sciences and Shahid Chamran University in Ahvaz. Materials and methods: In this analytic descriptive study, life satisfaction and mental health status of a randomized sample including 210 retired elderly of the JundiShapur university of medical sciences and Shahid Chamran University in ahvaz was investigated using GHQ-28, LSI-Z questionnaires in 2013. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient as well as the Chi-squared test by SPSS Software edition 20. Findings: The results of this study showed that the mean of age was 66.6 (SD=7.2), 87.1% of the elderly were male, 87.6% were married and 99% lived with their family. According to the results, 29% of elderly were suspicious for mental disorders with social dysfunction ranked as the highest disorder at 24.8%. Only 15.2% of elderly were highly satisfied with their life. The results of the correlation analysis showed that mental health was significantly correlated with life satisfa ction, education, pension levels and exercise (P <0.05). Investigating mental health status and life satisfaction of retired elderly referred to retirement’s centers of the Jundishapur University of medical sciences and shahid Chamran University in Ahvaz

اهداف افزایش سن موجب بروز نقایص جسمانی و شناختی سالمندان شده و با سلامتی آن‌ها تداخل می‌کند. ازجمله نقایصی که درحال حاضر توجه عده زیادی از متخصصان را به خود جلب کرده است، اختلالات شناختی سالمندان است که از مشکلات شایع این دوران است. هدف مطالعه حاضر بررسی فراوانی اختلال شناختی در سالمندان مقیم آسایشگاه شهر خرم‌آباد است.مواد و روش ها در یک مطالعه مقطعی از نوع توصیفی-تحلیلی، 70 نفر از سالمندان مقیم خانه سالمندان صدیق شهر خرم‌آباد به روش سرشماری وارد مطالعه شدند. از پرسش‌نامه استاندارد بررسی وضعیت شناختیMini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) به عنوان ابزار جمع‌آوری داده‌ها استفاده شد. داده‌ها پس از جمع‌آوری وارد نرم‌افزار spss (نسخه 16) شدند و با آمار توصیفی و استنباطی (آزمون کای اسکوئر) تجزیه و تحلیل شدند. یافته ها از 70 نفر سالمند شرکت کننده در نمونه، 48 نفر (68/6%) زن بودند. میانگین گروههای سنی 5/4±6/69 سال، حداقل 60 و حداکثر 91 سال بود. از نظر شیوع اختلال شناختی به طور کلی 74/3% از سالمندان دارای درجاتی از اختلال شناختی بودند که 27/1% اختلال شناختی خفیف، 34/3% اختلال متوسط و 22/9% اختلال شناختی شدید داشتند.نتیجه گیری با توجه به شیوع فراوان اختلال شناختی، پیشنهاد می‌شود با انجام اقداماتی مثل کاهش استرس، انجام فعالیت‌های ورزشی مناسب و رفتاردرمانی، بروز اختلال شناختی را کنترل کرد یا به تأخیر انداخت و افراد مبتلا را هر چه سریع‌تر شناسایی کرد. انجام مطالعات مشابه در سالمندان مقیم جامعه پیشنهاد می‌شود.

The Prevalence of Cognitive Impairment in Elderly Nursing Home Residents

INTRODUCTION: Sexual problems in elder people are considered as a public health concern and can affect their overall health and quality of life This study aimed to investigate the sexual quality of life and its relationship with general health in older men in the west of Iran METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study among 362 older men aged 60 years or older attending Comprehensive Health Care Centers in Ilam, Iran Samples selected through Quota sampling method and simple random sampling Data were collected using the Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Male and General Health Questionnaire-28 RESULTS: The mean ± standard deviation (SD) of age was 699 ± 81 years The mean ± SD score of sexual quality of life and general health of older men was 466 ± 146 and 192 ± 97, respectively A positive and significant association was found between sexual quality of life and general health (P CONCLUSION: According to the results, the sexual quality of life of participants was at a moderate level Since only some factors influencing the sexual quality of life were ascertained, further studies are required to investigate all factors influencing older men's sexual quality of life

Previous studies suggest that visual information is essential for balance and stability of locomotion. We investigated whether visual deprivation is met with active reactions tending to minimize worsening balance and stability during walking in humans. We evaluated effects of vision on kinetic characteristics of walking on a treadmill-ground reaction forces (GRFs) and shifts in the center of mass (COM). Young adults (n = 10) walked on a treadmill at a comfortable speed. We measured three orthogonal components of GRFs and COM shifts during no-vision (NV) and full-vision (FV) conditions. We also computed the dynamic balance index (DN)—the perpendicular distance from the projection of center of mass (pCOM) to the inter-foot line (IFL) normalized to half of the foot length. Locally weighted regression smoothing with alpha-adjusted serial T tests was used to compare GRFs and DN between two conditions during the entire stance phase. Results showed significant differences in GRFs between FV and NV conditions in vertical and ML directions. Variability of peak forces of all three components of GRF increased in NV condition. We also observed significant increase in DN for NV condition in eight out of ten subjects. The pCOM was kept within BOS during walking, in both conditions, suggesting that body stability was actively controlled by adjusting three components of GRFs during NV walking to minimize stability loss and preserve balance.
