Software-defined network (SDN) has become one of the most important architectures for the management of largescale complex networks, which may require repolicing or reconfigurations from time to time. SDN achieves easy repolicing by decoupling the control plane from data plane. Thus, the network routers/switches just simply forward packets by following the flow table rules set by the control plane. Currently, OpenFlow is the most popular SDN protocol/standard and has a set of design specifications. Although SDN/OpenFlow is a relatively new area, it has attracted much attention from both academia and industry. In this paper, we will conduct a comprehensive survey of the important topics in SDN/OpenFlow implementation, including the basic concept, applications, language abstraction, controller, virtualization, quality of service, security, and its integration with wireless and optical networks. We will compare the pros and cons of different schemes and discuss the future research trends in this exciting area. This survey can help both industry and academia R&D people to understand the latest progress of SDN/OpenFlow designs.

A Survey on Software-Defined Network and OpenFlow: From Concept to Implementation

The Cramer Rao Lower Bound on the mean square error of unbiased estimators is widely used as a measure of accuracy of parameter estimates obtained from a given data. In this paper, derivation of the Cramer-Rao Bound on real decay rates of multiexponential signals buried in white Gaussian noise is presented. It is then used to compare the efficiencies of some of the techniques used in the analysis of such signals. Specifically, two eigendecomposition-based techniques as well as SVD-ARMA (Singular Value Decomposition Autoregressive Moving Average) method are tested and evaluated. The two eigenvector methods were found to outperform SVD-ARMA with minimum norm being the most reliable at very low SNRs (Signal to Noise Ratios).

Cramer-Rao Lower Bound for Parameter Estimation of Multiexponential Signals

The fast development of multimedia computing has led to the demand of using digital images. The manipulation, storage and transmission of these images in their raw form is very expensive, it significantly slows the transmission and makes storage costly. Many techniques are now available and much effort is being expended in determining the optimum compression technique. Recently, compression techniques using wavelet transforms (WTs) have received great attention, because of their promising compression ratio, flexibility in representing images and its ability to take into account the human visual system. In this paper, the authors combine a wavelet transform with vector quantization, using a modified version of the LBG algorithm using the partial search partial distortion (PSPD) scheme, for coding the wavelet coefficients to speed up the scheme in codebook generation and the search required for nearest neighbour codevector of input image. The wavelet transform is used to obtain a set of different frequency subbands of the image; the image is decomposed using a pyramidal algorithm architecture. According to Shannon's rate distortion theory, the wavelet coefficients are vector quantized using multiresolution codebooks. The proposed scheme can save 70-80% of the vector quantization (VQ) encoding time compared to fully search VQ and reduced arithmetic complexity without sacrificing performance.

This Biometric identification technology has been growing over the last years with increasing demand to improve the technology and provide a better security for the society. In this paper, a biometric identification system using electrocardiogram (ECG) has been introduced and to compete with the existing biometric identification systems such as fingerprint, signature, voice and face. Various studies have been conducted by previous researchers in order to find the best procedures and techniques to provide an ECG identification system with the lowest percentage of error. A proposed scheme is presented in this work based on the previous studies. It is illustrate the uniqueness of ECG signal for each person thus it can be used to identify an individual.

Performance evaluation of human identification based on ECG signal

An antenna array is a set of a combination of two or more antennas in order to achieve improved performance over a single antenna. This paper investigates the beam steering technique using the active element pattern of dipole antenna array. The radiation pattern of the array can be obtain by using the active element pattern method multiplies with the array factor. The active element pattern is crucial as the mutual coupling effect is considered, and it will lead to an accurate radiation pattern, especially in determining direction of arrival (DoA) of a signal. A conventional method such as the pattern multiplication method ignores the coupling effect which is essential especially for closely spaced antenna arrays. The comparison between both techniques has been performed for better performance. It is observed that the active element pattern influenced the radiation pattern of antenna arrays, especially at the side lobe level. Then, the beam of the 3x3 dipole antenna array has been steered to an angle of 60° using three techniques; Uniform, Chebyshev and Binomial distribution. All of these are accomplished using CST and Matlab software.

Healthcare and medical emergency are essential systems in human life; so that many countries work toward having it. Investigation of Malaysian case shows that it suffer from locality, missing of unified electronic medical record EMR and lack of utilizing Internet, multimedia, wireless and real time technologies. Other drawbacks include: Difficulty in searching and viewing up to date records for patient, doctor, hospital, and drug, since many of such records are still kept in filing cabinet. This leads to difficulty in communication, hard to manage and exchange patient data between various medical units. The fully computerizing and combining of such medical systems will lead to produce a Novel Integrated Healthcare Medical Emergency Model (IHMEM). IHMEM includes three main parts: The web based database, the intelligent agent, and the mobility. This paper focuses on developing an interactive web-based database with unified EMR as well as using SMS facilities, where all hospitals, healthcare and emergency centers can view the patient record simultaneously, exchanging, managing and collaborate on sharing resources between medical units. A prototype for this work is build and sample of implementation results for interactive database and SMS facilities are shown. IHMEM can be easily customized to be suitable for other countries.
