Myocardial Work in Patients Hospitalized With COVID‐19: Relation to Biomarkers, COVID‐19 Severity, and All‐Cause Mortality
Flemming Javier Olsen,Mats Christian Højbjerg Lassen,Kristoffer Grundtvig Skaarup,Jacob Christensen,Filip Soeskov Davidovski,Alia Saed Alhakak,Morten Sengeløv,Anne Bjerg Nielsen,Niklas Dyrby Johansen,Claus Graff,Henning Bundgaard,Christian Hassager,Reza Jabbari,Jørn Carlsen,Ole Kirk,Matias Greve Lindholm,Lothar Wiese,O. Smiseth,Espen W. Remme,Tor Biering-Sørensen +32 more
TL;DR: In patients admitted with COVID-19, the findings indicate that NT-proBNP and troponin may be associated with lower GWI, whereas CRP is not, and GWI was independently associated with all-cause death, but did not provide prognostic information beyond readily available clinical parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI
158 Myocardial work exposes afterload-dependent changes in strain
OJ Sletten,John M Aalen,F H Khan,C K Larsen,Katsuji Inoue,Espen W. Remme,Jonny Hisdal,Otto A. Smiseth,Helge Skulstad +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a modest increase in afterload can result in significant reduction in GLS, that may lead to overdiagnosis of LV-dysfunction, and GMW did not decrease, suggesting it has a better specificity in patients at risk for subclinical LV dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Letter by Smiseth and Nagueh et al Regarding Article, "Role of Diastolic Stress Testing in the Evaluation for Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: A Simultaneous Invasive-Echocardiographic Study".
Otto A. Smiseth,Sherif F. Nagueh +1 more
TL;DR: The authors explored whether diagnostic algorithms from the European Society of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography could identify elevated left ventricular filling pressure in patients suspected of having HFpEF.
