Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder for which there are few therapeutics that affect the underlying disease mechanism. Recent epidemiological studies, however, suggest that lifestyle changes may slow the onset/progression of AD. Here we have used TgCRND8 mice to examine directly the interaction between exercise and the AD cascade. Five months of voluntary exercise resulted in a decrease in extracellular amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques in the frontal cortex (38%; p = 0.018), the cortex at the level of the hippocampus (53%; p = 0.0003), and the hippocampus (40%; p = 0.06). This was associated with decreased cortical Aβ1-40 (35%; p = 0.005) and Aβ1-42 (22%; p = 0.04) (ELISA). The mechanism appears to be mediated by a change in the processing of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) after short-term exercise, because 1 month of activity decreased the proteolytic fragments of APP [for α-C-terminal fragment (α-CTF), 54% and p = 0.04; for β-CTF, 35% and p = 0.03]. This effect was independent of mRNA/protein changes in neprilysin and insulin-degrading enzyme and, instead, may involve neuronal metabolism changes that are known to affect APP processing and to be regulated by exercise. Long-term exercise also enhanced the rate of learning of TgCRND8 animals in the Morris water maze, with significant (p < 0.02) reductions in escape latencies over the first 3 (of 6) trial days. In support of existing epidemiological studies, this investigation demonstrates that exercise is a simple behavioral intervention sufficient to inhibit the normal progression of AD-like neuropathology in the TgCRND8 mouse model.

Entrepreneurs bring an enormous contribution to a country’s economic growth. Developing individual’s interest into new venture creation represents an important asset, especially for less developed countries where entrepreneurial activities are fundamental in enhancing economic growth. The recent economic crisis turned the attention of European policymakers towards entrepreneurship as a driving force for the creation of new job opportunities, regional/national competitiveness and growth. The aim of this article is to verify what relations are between locus of control, need for achievement and entrepreneurial intention of youth, following a cognitive approach and how much entrepreneurial education consolidates entrepreneurial skills and informs the young that entrepreneurship is a career option. To analyse entrepreneurial intentions, locus of control, need for achievement and entrepreneurial education in the context of Romania, this research used a quantitative design based on the answers to the questionnaire conducted during March 2017 to October 2017 on a sample of 270 students from two important Romanian universities. From the methodological point of view, several hypotheses have been developed and tested using multivariate logistic regression estimates, frequency analysis, internal consistency reliability of the constructs and moderating effects. The results illustrate that locus of control, need for achievement and entrepreneurial education proved to be important determinants for venture creation among young students, both independently and under the action of control variables. Also, respondents’ gender had a significant influence on one’s intention of opening a business in the future, with males being more inclined to become entrepreneurs than females.

Impact of Personality Traits and Entrepreneurship Education on Entrepreneurial Intentions of Business and Engineering Students

The present research endeavours to comprehend the young S&T graduates’ intention toward pursuing an entrepreneurial career in a developing nation i.e., India. Using a modified version of Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as our conceptual model, we attempted to integrate three additional constructs (perceived career option, entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial personality traits) to explain the relationship between a list of antecedents and entrepreneurial intention (EI). Structural equation modelling (SEM) technique has been implemented while analysing the data, collected through a self-administered questionnaire survey of five premier technology institutes in India. Findings, using a sample size of 476 young Science & Technology graduates at Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), suggest that a positive attitude toward entrepreneurship when reinforced by required entrepreneurial knowledge and the existence of viable entrepreneurial career option significantly influence EI. We found a positive but relatively weak influence of subjective norms on intention formation. Further, our findings recognise that the relationship between entrepreneurial personality traits and EI is fully mediated by perceived self-efficacy. Moderating effect suggests that student’s perceived self-efficacy boosts the entrepreneurial personality traits to EI relationship. The results also reinforced the appropriateness of incorporating auxiliary constructs in base TPB, as our conceptual model provides additional predictive power and a better understanding of how entrepreneurial intent develops.

Amac: Literaturde TFEQ “Three-factor eating questionnaire” olarak bilinen anket, bireylerin beslenme aliskanliklarini olcmektedir. Bu calismada, grubumuz tarafindan «Uc Faktorlu Beslenme Anketi» adiyla Turkceye cevrilmis olan anketin gecerlik ve guvenirliginin kanitlanarak ulkemizde kullaniminin saglamasi amaclanmaktadir. Yontemler: Vucut kitle indeksi 30’un uzerinde olan 50 obez hasta, vucut kitle indeksi 25-30 arasinda olan 50 fazla kilolu kisi ve 18’den buyuk 25’ten kucuk olan 50 saglikli birey calismaya dahil edilmistir. Tum bireylerin yas, cinsiyet, bel cevresi, kilo, boy ve vucut kitle indeksi degerleri kaydedilmis ve bireylere anket uygulamasi gerceklestirilmistir.  Bulgular: Istatistiksel analizler sonucunda anketin guvenirliginin yuksek oldugu tespit edilmistir. Ek olarak, anketin kisilerin bilincli olarak yemek yemelerini kisitlama derecesini, kontrolsuz olarak yemek yeme seviyesini ve duygusal olduklari anlardaki yemek yeme derecesini olcmenin yaninda, acliga duyarlilik seviyesini de olctugu tespit edilmistir. Sonuc: Anketin Turkce versiyonu, beslenme aliskanliklarinin incelenmesi amaciyla ulkemizde diger arastirmacilar tarafindan kullanilabilir.
