Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of imipenem and ceftazidime as therapy for severe melioidosis.

TL;DR: Imipenem is a safe and effective treatment for acute severe melioidosis and may be considered an alternative to ceftazidime and the main outcome measures were death or treatment failure.
Journal ArticleDOI

A prospective study of AIDS-associated cryptococcal meningitis in Thailand treated with high-dose amphotericin B

TL;DR: High-dose amphotericin B was not as effective as previously thought in treating AIDS-associated cyptococcal meningitis and prognostic factors affecting survival after high- doses followed by oral azole treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diagnosis of Penicillium marneffei infection by quantitation of urinary antigen by using an enzyme immunoassay.

TL;DR: A method for the quantitation of P. marneffeiantigen in urine was developed by using fluorescein isothiocyanate-labelled purified rabbit hyperimmune immunoglobulin G in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and had a diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of 97% and 98% respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of lysis centrifugation, pour plate, and conventional blood culture methods in the diagnosis of septicaemic melioidosis.

TL;DR: Routine use of one of these quantitative methods, in addition to conventional broth culture, may lead to earlier diagnosis of septicaemic melioidosis.
