Performance assessment of OpenFOAM and FLOW-3D in the numerical modeling of a low Reynolds number hydraulic jump

TL;DR: A comparative performance analysis of the CFD platforms OpenFOAM and FLOW-3D is presented, focusing on a 3D swirling turbulent flow: a steady hydraulic jump at low Reynolds number, where both CFD codes had good behavior, but special care is required with swirling flows.
Journal ArticleDOI

Smart Water Management towards Future Water Sustainable Networks

TL;DR: In this paper, a case study to analyze the benefits to develop smart water grids, showing the advantages offered by the development of control measures, is presented, particularly savings of 57 GWh and 100 Mm3 in a period of twelve years when different measures from the common ones were developed for monitoring and control of water losses in smart water management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling Irrigation Networks for the Quantification of Potential Energy Recovering: A Case Study

TL;DR: In this article, a new methodology is proposed to help water managers quantify the potential energy recovering of an irrigation water network with adequate conditions of topographies distribution, and a case study has been analyzed in a typical Mediterranean region and the potential available energy has been estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental assessment of 9 European public bus transportation systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the factors that affect the production of carbon dioxide (CO2) as well as of air pollutants, in 9 major European cities, aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of the actual knowledge on the atmospheric pollution from public transportation systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of CFD methods to an anaerobic digester: The case of Ontinyent WWTP, Valencia, Spain

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the preliminary results of a 3D numerical study, investigating the characteristics of sludge flow inside the Ontinyent Wastewater Treatment Plant anaerobic digester (Valencia, Spain) using the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation.
