Journal ArticleDOI

Upper esophageal sphincter opening and modulation during swallowing.

TL;DR: It is concluded that transsphincteric transport of increasing swallow bolus volumes is accomplished by modulating sphincter diameter, opening interval, and flow rate (reflected by bolus head velocity), rather than simply a consequence of cricopharyngeal relaxation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preliminary observations on the effects of age on oropharyngeal deglutition.

TL;DR: In this article, a simultaneous manometric and video-fluoroscopic data collection protocol permitted measurement of bolus transit, temporal aspects of the oropharyngeal swallow, and pharygeal peristalsis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proximal esophageal pH-metry in patients with 'reflux laryngitis'.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the subset of reflux patients who experience laryngeal symptoms show significantly more proximal esophageal acid exposure (especially nocturnally) and often have laryngoscopic findings of posterior lARYngitis not observed in controlReflux patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Peristaltic dysfunction associated with nonobstructive dysphagia in reflux disease.

TL;DR: It is concluded that peristaltic dysfunction should be considered along with mechanical obstruction as a potential cause of dysphagia in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiation-induced esophageal injury: a spectrum from esophagitis to cancer.

TL;DR: The spectrum of injury ranges from acute self-limited esophagitis to life-threatening esophageal perforation and their linkage to radiation may not be considered.
