Experimental and numerical investigations on laser-welded corrugated-core sandwich panels subjected to air blast loading

TL;DR: In this article, an autodyn-based numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the dynamic response of core sandwich panels to air blast loading in an explosion tank considering three levels of blast loading and found that the maximum deflection, core web buckling and core compaction increased as the decrease of stand-off distance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental study on the dynamic response of foam-filled corrugated core sandwich panels subjected to air blast loading

TL;DR: In this article, effective approaches to enhance the blast resistance of sandwich structures with corrugated cores were developed by adopting three different strategies to fill the spaces within cores with polymeric foam.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic response of metallic trapezoidal corrugated-core sandwich panels subjected to air blast loading – An experimental study

TL;DR: In this article, the dynamic response of metallic trapezoidal corrugated core sandwich panels under air blast loading is studied by experimental investigation, which revealed that the deflection and damage level of panel increased with the decrease of stand-off distance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of structural configuration on air blast resistance of polyurea-coated composite steel plates: Experimental studies

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of structural configuration on air blast resistance of polyurea-coated composite steel (PCCS) plates was experimentally evaluated, and failure modes and energy dissipation mechanisms (EDMs) were identified from the stress wave propagation perspective.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of strength matching on failure characteristics of polyurea coated thin metal plates under localized air blast loading: Experiment and numerical analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of material and interface strengths on the failure characteristics of polyurea coated steel (PCS) plates under localized air blast loading were investigated, and the results showed that the kinetic energy of polyuresa fragments significantly contributed to the total energy absorption of polyura backing layer (PBL) that failed due to spalling.
