Poly(arylene piperidinium) hydroxide ion exchange membranes: synthesis, alkaline stability and conductivity

TL;DR: A series of poly(arylene piperidinium)s (PAPipQs) devoid of any alkali-sensitive aryl ether bonds or benzylic sites are prepared and studied as anion exchange membranes (AEMs) for alkaline fuel cells as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recent developments in high-temperature proton conducting polymer electrolyte membranes

TL;DR: In the field of proton conducting polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, this article showed that the structure diffusion of the protons holds great promise in the long perspective, and proposed new ionomers and hybrid membranes containing inorganic nanoparticles to control morphology and enhance water retention, and improved systems based on the complexation of basic polymers with oxo-acids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Poly(phenylene oxide) functionalized with quaternary ammonium groups via flexible alkyl spacers for high-performance anion exchange membranes

TL;DR: In this article, quaternary ammonium (QA) groups were attached to poly(phenylene oxide) via flexible and stable heptyl side chains by using a straightforward synthetic route involving bromoalkylation and quaternization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exploring Different Cationic Alkyl Side Chain Designs for Enhanced Alkaline Stability and Hydroxide Ion Conductivity of Anion-Exchange Membranes

Hai-Son Dang, +1 more
- 11 Aug 2015 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a series of poly(phenylene oxide)s (PPOs) was tethered with cationic alkyl side chains of different lengths and configurations, and the polymers were configured with or without octyl extender chains pendant to the quaternary ammonium (QA) groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

N-Spirocyclic Quaternary Ammonium Ionenes for Anion-Exchange Membranes

TL;DR: The synthesis and properties of N-spirocyclic quaternary ammonium ionenes (spiro-ionenes) containing 5- and 6-membered rings fused by central nitrogen cations constitute a new class of alkali-stable anion-exchange polymers and membranes.
