The biology of the small hive beetle (Aethina tumida, Coleoptera: Nitidulidae): Gaps in our knowledge of an invasive species

TL;DR: The knowledge of the small hive beetle is still limited, creating demand for more research in all areas of its biology, and it has the potential to become a global threat to apiculture and wild bee populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of Varroa jacobsoni Oud. resistant to fluvalinate and amitraz using coumaphos

TL;DR: The first known reported case of amitraz resistance in Varroa jacobsoni in the U.S.A. is reported, showing that mites in Minnesota are resistant to both fluvalinate andAmitraz, and that coumaphos is effective in controlling these mites.

Detection of resistance in US Varroa jacobsoni Oud. (Mesostigmata: Varroidae) to the acaricide fluvalinate

TL;DR: Populations of Varroa jacobsoni Oud from three geographic regions of the United States were assayed for resistance to fluvalinate and a bioassay using a discriminating concentration estimated to cause approximately 80-90 % mortality was used to compare percent mortalities between locations.
