The dependence of microstructure, texture evolution and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy sheet on final cold rolling deformation

Effect of solution time on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy sheets with different contents of iron-rich phase was investigated systematically by microstructure characterization, texture measurement and tensile test. The results show that the recrystallization microstructure, texture and mechanical properties can be affected by the change of solution time, but the level depends on the content and distribution of iron-rich phase. With increasing solution time, the strengths and planar anisotropy Δ r values of the sheets increase, but plasticity strain ratio r and strain-hardening exponent n values decrease, the change in values is much more significant in alloy with low volume fraction of iron-rich phase than those of alloy with high number of iron-rich phase. The same trend for the changes of recrystallization grain size of the two alloys can also be observed. Additionally, the texture of the sheet with low volume fraction of iron-rich phase particles transforms from Cube orientation to Cube ND and P orientations firstly, and finally transforms to Goss orientation with further increasing solution time, whereas the texture of the sheet with a high number of iron-rich phase particles only transforms from Cube orientation to Cube ND and P orientations even after long time solution treatment. Accordingly, the effect of texture on r value has been simulated and one recrystallization model is proposed to explain the recrystallization texture evolution.

Effect of solution time on microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloys

Effect of intermediate annealing on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy sheet in the different conditions was investigated by means of tensile test, microstructure characterization and texture measurement in this study. The results show that, three different intermediate annealing treatments (no annealing, low temperature annealing, high temperature annealing) have a great influence on the evolution of microstructure and texture, and final mechanical properties. Compared with the high temperature annealing and no intermediate annealing, the low temperature annealing is most beneficial to improve mechanical properties, especially for improving the average Lankford coefficient r and reducing Δ r values, and to form the uniform recrystallization structure and the finer recrystallization grains. Although the intermediate annealing temperature only affects the intensities of textures formed by annealing treatments, and the intensities of β fibers formed by the following cold rolling, yet, the texture components are quite different in the three alloy sheets in the T4P state, and only the Cube ND orientation produced by PSN effect appears in the alloy sheet treated by the low temperature annealing. Additionally, the relationship between texture, r value and yield strength was analyzed by VPSC model and slip theory in this paper.

The dependence of final microstructure, texture evolution and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy sheets on the intermediate annealing

Effect of Zn addition on the microstructure, texture evolution and mechanical properties of Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys was investigated by mechanical properties, microstructure and texture characterization in the present study. The results show that Zn addition has a significant influence on the evolution of microstructure and texture, and final mechanical properties. Yield strength, ultimate tensile strength and elongation increase and average Lankford coefficient r value decreases with increasing Zn content. Although the microstructure evolution in both the Zn-free and high Zn-added alloy sheets during thermomechanical processing is basically similar to each other, both the different precipitate distribution in the annealing or rolling state, and recrystallization microstructure in the solution state still can be found. Additionally, Zn addition basically does not change texture component but decrease the intensity before solution treatment. However, Zn addition has a notable effect on the recrystallization texture evolution during solution treatment. The Zn-free alloy sheet is comprised of Cube ND , P and Goss orientations, while the alloy sheet with high Zn content has stronger texture consisting of Cube ND , Cube, {012} , {113} and {023} orientations. Finally, effect of texture on r value was analyzed by Visco-plastic self-consistent (VPSC) model.

of EP0818553In a method for the manufacture of aluminium alloy sheet having a content of Mg of 1.5 to 8.0 wt% and a total content of (Mn + Cr + Zr) of not more than 0.1 wt%, a solution heat treatment step is carried out at final thickness of the sheet in a continuous annealing furnace. In this solution heat treatment the heating rate of the sheet in the heating region of said continuous annealing furnace is at least 50 DEG C/s. Induction heating may be used. Improved properties can be obtained.
