Lee-wave clouds and denitrification of the polar stratosphere
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a hypothesis that the known formation of nitric acid hydrates in lee-wave ice clouds produces a "standing crop" of NATs, and that growth and sedimentation of these particles efficiently denitrifies the polar stratosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Are models of catalytic removal of O3 by HOx accurate? Constraints from in situ measurements of the OH to HO2 ratio
Ronald C. Cohen,Paul O. Wennberg,R. M. Stimpfle,J. P. Koplow,James G. Anderson,David W. Fahey,E. L. Woodbridge,E. R. Keim,Ru-Shan Gao,Michael H. Proffitt,Max Loewenstein,K. R. Chan +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a method is presented for interpreting simultaneous in situ observations that constrains the rates of chemical transformations that are responsible for over half the ozone removal rate in the lower stratosphere via reactions of HO_2 and control the abundance of HO-2 through coupling to nitrogen and halogen radicals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impacts of Traffic Reductions Associated With COVID-19 on Southern California Air Quality
TL;DR: It is reported that, compared to the 19 March to 30 June period of the last 5 years, the 2020 concentrations of PM2.5 and NOx showed an overall reduction across the basin, and modest changes in O3 suggests additional mitigation will be necessary to comply with air quality standards.
B355 The Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON)
勇 森野,修 内野,博史 大山,修司 川上,Debra Wunch,Coleen M. Roehl,J. Messerschmidt,Gretchen Keppel-Aleks,Paul O. Wennberg,Rebecca A. Washenfelder,Geoffrey C. Toon,Jean-Frangois L. Blavier,Nicholas M. Mendonca,Kimberly Strong +25 more
TL;DR: The Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) as discussed by the authors is a global network of ground-based Fourier transform spectrometers designed to measure column abundances of CO2, CO, CH4, N2O and other molecules that absorb in the near infrared.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fractionation of 14N15N16O and 15N14N16O during photolysis at 213 nm
TL;DR: In this paper, the photolysis rates of the N2O structural isotopomers were studied in the stratosphere during UV photo-lysis at 213 nm using FTIR spectroscopy.
