The use and application of phylogeography for invertebrate conservation research and planning

TL;DR: Phylogeographic and comparative phylogeography provide an empirical framework for maximizing the conservation benefit of reserves, and directing conservation strategies and sustainable management practices outside of protected areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integrating phylogeography and morphometrics to assess conservation merits and inform conservation strategies for an endangered subspecies of a common bird species

TL;DR: From patterns of genetic subdivision on two spatial scales and morphological variation, it is concluded that cassidix, gippslandicus and (melanops + meltoni) are diagnosable as subspecies and low genetic diversity and effective population size of cassidx may translate to low genetic fitness and evolutionary potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel microsatellite DNA markers indicate strict parthenogenesis and few genotypes in the invasive willow sawfly Nematus oligospilus.

TL;DR: The confirmation of parthenogenetic reproduction in N. oligospilus and the fact that it has a very limited pool of genotypes have important implications for understanding and managing this species and its biology, including in terms of phenotypic diversity, host relationships, implications for spread and future adaptive change.
