The implementation of Wi-Fi on campuses brings huge benefits for campus users in communications and education development. Some campuses face existing poor Quality of Service (QoS) on the Wi-Fi performance which is also unjustified and issues on unsatisfied connections. This research aims to analyses the Wi-Fi performance of the campus network for three indoor access points. Signal strength, usage percentage, channel utilization, and the number of clients count per access points are measured. Results show that 56% is the highest signal percentage and the lowest signal percentage is at 1%. Access point of Ustudent is the highest at 53% and lowest at 38%. The highest signal strength of -45dBm is found and the other two are below by -2 dBm. The lowest signal strength is at -95 dBm. SSID CCNA_1 is identified has the best signal strength compared to other SSIDs because it runs on 5 GHz frequency. The most channels used are channels 1, 4, and 6. Respectively 151, 67, and 57 users are connected to Ustudent, UHotspot, and CCNA_1. This study is significant for the QoS in a campus network in providing good network services. Thus, the QoS on Wi-Fi performance is improvised, monitored and analyzed for continues supports users in the campus network successfully

QoS of Wi-Fi performance based on signal strength and channel for indoor campus network

The integration of WiFi and WiMAX will allow seamless connection between users from both systems with a greater capacity, higher bit rates and mobility access. To enable interoperability between WiFi and WiMAX a special gateway is required known as WiFi/WiMAX router. In this paper, we investigate, through the use of OPNET simulation tools, number of WiFi users or hotspots could accommodated by a WiFi/WiMAX router and a WiMAX Base Station. Further, we evaluate the use of suitable applications and network traffic combinations for all WiFi users in order to fully optimize the network within a constrained bandwidth. On top of that, subsequently to investigate more about the hybrid network, the quantity of nodes is supported to 200 users based on the same situation. This type of integration will solves many of the difficulties in last-mile implementations, which also will benefit both users and service providers.

Integration of WiFi and WiMAX Services: Bandwidth Optimization and Traffic Combination

A special router is needed to allow the interconnection between two different protocol network known as WiFi/WiMAX router. In this paper, we investigate and simulated based on the scenario using OPNET modeler simulation tools and compared their throughput, packet dropped, MOS value and jitter. To have an optimized network, we investigate the number of WiFi users or hotspots can could accommodate a WiFi/WiMAX router and a WiMAX Base S tation. In addition, we also evaluated the suitable applications or traffic combinations for all the WiFi users on the network to fully utilize the given bandwidth. This type of integration will solves many of the difficulties in last-mile implementations, which also will benefit both users and service providers.

Network optimization for integration of WiFi and WiMAX

With the success of wireless technologies in consumer electronics, standard wireless technologies is envisioned for the deployment in engineering environment. Engineering applications involving mobile subsystems or just the desire to save cabling make wireless technologies attractive. Nonetheless these applications often have rigorous requirements on reliability and timing. The main aim of this paper is to simulate an environment of integrated network i.e. Wi-Fi and Wimax and investigate the comparative performance of individual environment i.e. Wi-Fi, Wimax, and an integrated Wi-Fi and Wimax with respect to QoS parameters. For this we used Ns2 and LTE tool and further proves integration shows better results.

QOS Based Analysis in IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16 Integrated Networks

A hybrid system is an integration of two or more different systems, particularly in this thesis referring to wireless broadband networks. However, to provide end-to-end quality of service (QoS) in a hybrid system is a challenging task due to different protocol in each system. In this thesis, we aim to improve the overall performance of hybrid networks in a disaster management by addressing the challenges as well as the problems in a homogeneous network. Such an approach allows more efficient multi-parameter optimization and significant improvements in the overall system performance. More specifically, we introduce two novel algorithms. The first is the novel end-to-end QoS algorithm for hybrid wireless broadband networks. We proposed the end-to-end QoS maps based on particular chosen parameters and analyse the simulation results. The QoS maps are applied to a few scenarios, and the performance evaluation of the constructed network is presented. Based on the results obtained by software simulation tools, the performance validation shows that the hybrid network has specific advantages and constraints in terms of number of users, preference, coverage and applications. The second algorithm presented is the novel in users’ application algorithm, the purpose of which is to optimize bandwidth for first responders applied in the PPDR project under grant agreement EU FP7 SEC PPDR-TC. This algorithm is responsible for incorporating more users and different levels of background load to a hybrid network. The proposed method analyses both positive and negative outcomes based on the results obtained. This algorithm has been presented in the PPDR project.

Hybrid wireless broadband networks

As the wireless technology becomes more and more prevalent, the demand for it in the enterprise world grows to be more evident. The main objective of this test-bed environment research is to create a comprehensive and integrated WiMAX and Wi-Fi network and investigate the effects of WiMAX QOS routines on the throughput and delay time in the system. We implemented the entire network environment and tried to provide analysis for the outcomes. We were able to successfully implement our integrated WiMAX — Wi-Fi system and experiment with variety of Quality of Service (QoS) scenarios. The numerical results obtained with help of a commercial network analyzer Tool (PRTG) confirms that expected outcomes for effectiveness of the QoS routines defined in the proposed WiMAX architecture are met.
