The increasing demand for wearable electronics and the intensification of electromagnetic pollution have boosted the exploration of high-performance flexible microwave absorption (MA) materials Herein, the hierarchical Ti3C2Tx MXene/Ni chain/ZnO array hybrid nanostructures are rationally constructed on cotton fabric for acquiring enhanced MA performance and durable self-cleaning ability Based on the high dielectric loss capacity of MXenes and ZnO arrays, by controlling dip-coating numbers of Ni chains, the magnetic loss can be manipulated to modulate the impedance matching, reflection loss (RL), and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, the bandwidth of RL < -10 dB) The minimum RL value of the designed fabric can reach -351 dB at 83 GHz with a thickness of 28 mm, and its EAB can cover the whole X-band with only a 22 mm thickness In addition, the designed fabric also exhibits superior liquid repellency and durable self-cleaning ability due to the combination of the hybrid nanostructures and a superhydrophobic coating This work provides an insight for rational design of textile-based MA materials, showing potential applications in flexible and wearable functional electronics

Introduction: Genetically engineered biomaterials are useful for controlled delivery owing to their rational design, tunable structure–function, biocompatibility, degradability and target specificity. Silk-elastin-like proteins (SELPs), a family of genetically engineered recombinant protein polymers, possess these properties. Green Synthesis of Robust Superhydrophobic Antibacterial and UV-Blocking Cotton Fabrics by a Dual-Stage Silanization Approach

Multifunctional fabrics of high durability through a scalable and eco-friendly technique remains a great challenge hindering their commercialization. In this work, we report a facile synthesis technique for the fabrication of superhydrophobic antibacterial fabrics by employing fluorine-free silane coupling agents as cross-linkers for enhanced durability. Three silane cross-linkers, Aminoethylaminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS), Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), and Methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS), have been investigated. During the fabrication, a low surface energy polymer, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was first deposited on cotton fabrics. Subsequently, antibacterial copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were anchored on the PDMS coated fabrics using the silane cross-linkers. Genetically engineered protein biopolymers belong to a new family of polymers that have recently attracted interest due to their highly modifiable material properties. It is now possible to use a bottom-up engineering process to design advanced, smart materials for biomedical and engineering applications, such as energy storage and bioremediation. This review explores recent developments in these genetically engineered protein biopolymers, with a particular emphasis on elastomeric biopolymers. Also discussed are the future directions that this field will likely explore. Genetically engineered protein biopolymers belong to a new family of polymers that have recently attracted interest due to their highly modifiable material properties. Recombinant elastomeric protein biopolymers: Progress and prospects

Recombinant technology is a versatile platform to create novel artificial proteins with tunable properties. For the last decade, many artificial proteins that have incorporated functional domains derived from nature (or created de novo) have been reported. In particular, artificial extracellular matrix (aECM) proteins have been developed; these aECM proteins consist of biological domains taken from fibronectin, laminins and collagens and are combined with structural domains including elastin-like repeats, silk and collagen repeats. To date, aECM proteins have been widely investigated for applications in tissue engineering and wound repair. Recently, Tjin and coworkers developed integrin-specific aECM proteins designed for promoting human skin keratinocyte attachment and propagation. In their work, the aECM proteins incorporate cell binding domains taken from fibronectin, laminin-5 and collagen IV, as well as flanking elastin-like repeats. They demonstrated that the aECM proteins developed in their work were promising candidates for use as substrates in artificial skin. Here, we outline the design and construction of such aECM proteins as well as their purification process using the thermo-responsive characteristics of elastin.
