In the laser treatment of a workpiece (9), e.g. for surface hardening, melting, alloying, cladding, welding or cutting, the adverse effect of reflectivity of the surface, when a pure, monochromatic laser (6) is used, is remedied by the simultaneous application of a relatively shorter wavelength beam (1). The two beams (1)(5) may be combined by a beam coupler (4) or may reach the workpiece (9) by separate optical paths (not shown). The shorter wavelength beam (1) improves the coupling efficiency of the higher- powered laser beam (5).

The aim of those research studies is to replace Portland cement due to its high environmental cost. Materials with high performance for that matter are alkali-activated materials [1]. These new types of binder material have obtained good results in terms of mechanical strength and durability [2], but their properties depend on raw materials used and their provenance.In this study, a comparison was made between the uses of different slags as raw materials: black steel slag, ladle furnace slag, copper slag, and ferrosilicon slag. One-hundred percent of slag was used as a precursor, and the activator was a mixer with different proportions of KOH (8M) and K2SiO3: 35–65, 50–50, 65–35, and 75–25 (% KOH-% K2SiO3). The precursor and activator were mixed in a mixer, and they were poured into prismatic (10 × 10 × 60 mm) and cylindrical (diameter 25mm) molds. After one day, pastes were demolded, and they were cured in climatic chamber for 7, 28, and 90 days for testing. In addition, at 28 days of curing, pastes were attacked by different solutions in order to verify the durability of pastes. Pastes manufactured were characterized after and before attack by mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, ATR-FTIR (Vertex 70 Bruker, Billerica, MA, USA), XRD (Empyrean equipment with PANalytical PIXcel-3D detector, Malvern, UK), and SEM-EDS (JEAL model SM 840, Peabody, MA, USA).The optimal activator was different for each precursor, highlighting copper slags such as the precursor. The same behavior was verified with durability tests by comparing the percentage losses of properties. Alkali Activated Cements Based on Slags from Different Industries

Dentro del arte gotico Europeo, este estudio trata de explicar la tecnica de pintura mural del Maestro Bolfgang y su discipulo Maestro de Mace. Se trata de dos de los mas importantes pintores en el territorio de Eslovenia en la segunda mitad del siglo XV. Siguiendo una metodologia basada en el examen de materiales pictoricos, se realizo una caracterizacion de pigmentos y morteros de soporte empleados en una serie de pinturas murales hechas por ambos artistas, en concreto en las que se encuentran en las iglesias de Crngrob (1453), Mirna (1463-65), Mevkuž (1465) y Mace (1467). Las muestras en polvo o preparadas en estratigrafias se analizaron con diferentes tecnicas instrumentales, principalmente microscopia optica, microscopia electronica de barrido con analisis quimico por energias dispersivas de rayos X (SEM/EDX), difraccion de rayos X (DRX) y espectroscopia infrarroja (FTIR). De este modo se obtuvieron datos de la composicion de los morteros de soporte de las distintas pinturas murales, pigmentos y aglutinantes usados trabajando con micromuestras. Los resultados de esta investigacion han permitido llegar a la conclusion que ambos maestros demuestran un grado muy alto de conocimiento pictorico, tanto en el estilo como tambien en la tecnica de ejecucion de sus obras. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analysis of Gothic mural paintings in Slovenia of Master Bolfgang and his disciple Master of Mace (15 th century) The present research, situated in the framework of European Gothic Art, is dedicated to the technique of mural painting of Master Bolfgang and his disciple Master of Mace. They are considered two of the most important painters in the second half of the 15th century in Slovenia. Several of their murals have been studied in order to characterize pigments and plasters applied by the masters. They can be found in the churhches of Crngrob (1453), Mirna (1463-65), Mevkuž (1465) y Mace (1467). Samples in powder or prepared as cross-sections were analysed by different instrumental techniques, principally optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Information on pigments, binders and supports were obtained, which made possible to draw conclusions on painting procedures of both artists. Both of them show a very high pictorial knowledge, not only in style but also in the technique. Análisis de pinturas murales góticas en Eslovenia del maestro Bolfgang y su discípulo maestro de Mače (siglo XV)

DOI: 10.7764/RDLC.17.3.457 In this work, we studied the mechanical performance of an LDPE film (0.22 mm in thickness) used as a material in the design of greenhouse covers. We investigated the effects of ageing at different periods of its service life and applying chemical substance treatments used as pesticides on greenhouse crops and after breakage using mechanical traction. Numerical simulations were performed using the finite element method. For this purpose, one section of the complete geometry of the greenhouse cover and different load conditions (1-5 kPa) were considered for the modelling. The performance of the polymer was assumed to be linearly elastic to simplify the governing equations. The study demonstrated that the LDPE film used was no longer effective as a greenhouse cover film due to the degradation of its mechanical properties. It was shown that the general performance of this film was in the plastic zone and its performance was non-linear. The results deduced from the present study are of interest because they show the material failure process of greenhouse covers in relation to the degradation process.
