Modeling Dynamic Electrical Resistance During Resistance Spot Welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantitatively modeled and analyzed the dynamic electrical resistance during resistance spot welding, which is obtained by taking the sum of temperature-dependent bulk resistance of the workpieces and contact resistances at the faying surface and electrode-workpiece interface within an effective area corresponding to the electrode tip.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrical contact resistance effect on resistance spot welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of local electrical contact resistance on transport variables, cooling rate, solute distribution, and nugget shape after solidification responsible for microstructure of the fusion zone during resistance spot welding are realistically and systematically investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transport Phenomena During Resistance Spot Welding

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the face radius and cone angle of the electrode, parameters governing welding current, electrical contact resistance, magnetic Prandtl number, electrical conductivity ratio, and workpiece thickness on transport phenomena are clearly provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unsteady marangoni flow in a molten pool when welding dissimilar metals

TL;DR: In this article, the authors apply the volume of fluid (VOF) and enthalpy methods to determine the interfaces between the immiscible dissimilar metals and between solid and liquid, and show in detail the unsteady variations in the velocity and temperature fields, the solute concentration on the free surface, and the shapes of the molten regions affected by varying the signs and magnitudes of the surface-tension coefficients.
