Abstract: The Simultaneous Photometer for Infrared and Visual Light has been used to observe 40 radio- and 39 optically-selected giant elliptical galaxies of known redshift in the 0.019-1.6 range. There is no indication in the results obtained of differences between the colors of radio and nonradio galaxies, with the exception of H-K in the z=0.2-0.4 range; the H-K color is best fitted by a passively evolving model with little residual star formation. Some galaxies exhibit strong blueward deviations. This behavior is most easily explained by star formation episodes involving small fractions of the total number of stars. 59 references.
