A housing for shielding a transducer of the type mounted on a silicon die attached to a flexible circuit. The housing provides a jacket which protects the silicon die from physical damage. The jacket, in cooperation with the top and bottom cups, further provides a shield for the silicon die from light and electromagnetic interferences. An acoustic port located on the top portion of the jacket furnishes the means by which acoustic energy enters the jacket to contact the transducer. A back cavity, formed between the bottom cup and the silicon die, serves as the acoustic pressure reference which allows the microphone to function properly.

Miniature silicon condenser microphone

A sound processing apparatus includes a plurality of microphones spaced apart from each other, each microphone producing electrical signals representative of sound signals incident thereon. The sound processing apparatus also includes a signal processing unit that produces a specific direction sound signal by processing the electrical signals according to a specific sound direction. The plurality of microphones can be positioned about a periphery of a computer display, and adaptive beam forming techniques can be employed to provide a directional input sound signal for use in sound processing.

Directional microphone utilizing spaced-apart omni-directional microphones

A solid state miniature condenser and condenser microphone of good sensitivity is disclosed. The microphone comprises a fixed perforated backplate that constitutes a fixed electrode in a parallel plate condenser, a diaphragm sensitive to incident sound pressure waves that constitutes a moveable plate in the parallel plate condenser, keepers to position the diaphragm in relationship to the backplate without applying appreciable tension to the diaphragm, and FET circuitry which provides an output proportional to the change in capacitance of the condenser when the diaphragm moves in relationship to the backplate.

Solid state condenser and microphone devices

An interactive audio system employs a sound signal processor coupled with a microprocessor as an interactive audio control system. A pair of tranceivers, operated as stereophonic loudspeakers and also as receiving microphones, are coupled with the signal processor for receiving voice commands from a principal user. The voice commands are processed to operate a variety of different devices, such as television, tape, radio or CD player for supplying signals to the processor, from which signals then are supplied to the loudspeakers of the transceivers to produce the desired sound. Additional infrared sensors may be utilized to constantly triangulate the position of the principal listener to supply signals back through the transceiver system to the processor for constantly adjusting the balance of the sound to maintain the "sweet spot" of the sound focused on the principal listener. Additional devices also may be controlled by the signal processor in response to voice commands which are matched with stored commands to produce an output from the signal processor to operate these other devices in accordance with the spoken voice commands. The system is capable of responding to voice commands simultaneously with the reproduction of stereophonic sound from any one of the sources of sound which are operated by the system.

Interactive audio control system

A photoacoustic imaging apparatus performs imaging of an optical absorber. The photoacoustic imaging apparatus includes a light source, a detector configured to detect an acoustic wave generated from the optical absorber that has absorbed energy of light emitted from the light source, and a signal processing unit configured to form an image of the optical absorber. The signal processing unit stores information indicating whether a rate of change in pressure of the acoustic wave detected by the detector is positive or negative before performing a waveform process on the acoustic wave.

Photoacoustic imaging apparatus and photoacoustic imaging method

An electro-acoustic arrangement comprises an amplifier (4) having a first input terminal (5), a second input terminal (5'), a first output terminal (3), a second output terminal (3'), and a series arrangement of a first impedance (1) and an electro-acoustic transducer unit (2) is coupled to the output terminals (3, 3'). At least the first impedance (1) is also coupled to the input terminals (5, 5') of the amplifier. The gain factor (A) of the amplifier for a signal applied to the first and second input terminals (5) and/or the impedance value Z 1 of the first impedance may be variable. This arrangement influences the acoustic properties of a space, such as the reverberation time. By means of such an arrangement (FIG. 1) and in particular by means of a system (FIG. 9) comprising a plurality of such arrangements, the acoustic properties of a space, such as the reverberation time, can be influenced.

Electro-acoustic system having a variable reflection/absorption characteristic

Microphone including an electrostatic microphone cartridge at least one of the electrodes of which is connected to a large resistor which forms part of an electronic circuit. The circuit may be the supply part or the input of the associated microphone amplifier which generally is incorporated in the cartridge. The large resistor is constituted by a structural component of the cartridge, which component is made of a weakly conductive synthetic material. The conductive synthetic material may be a conductive silicone rubber or a conductive polypropylene.
