Magnetocaloric effect: From materials research to refrigeration devices

Ferrite nanoparticles (FNPs) have attracted a great interest due to their wide applications in several areas such as biomedical, wastewater treatment, catalyst and electronic device. This review focuses on the synthesis, characterisation and application of FNPs in electronic device with more emphasis on the recently published works. The most commonly used synthesis techniques along with their advantages and limitations are discussed. The available characterisation techniques and their application in electronic materials such as sensors and biosensors, energy storage, microwave device, electromagnetic interference shielding and high-density recording media are briefly reviewed.

Ferrite nanoparticles: Synthesis, characterisation and applications in electronic device

Hyperthermia, the mild elevation of temperature to 40-43°C, can induce cancer cell death and enhance the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, achievement of its full potential as a clinically relevant treatment modality has been restricted by its inability to effectively and preferentially heat malignant cells. The limited spatial resolution may be circumvented by the intravenous administration of cancer-targeting magnetic nanoparticles that accumulate in the tumor, followed by the application of an alternating magnetic field to raise the temperature of the nanoparticles located in the tumor tissue. This targeted approach enables preferential heating of malignant cancer cells whilst sparing the surrounding normal tissue, potentially improving the effectiveness and safety of hyperthermia. Despite promising results in preclinical studies, there are numerous challenges that must be addressed before this technique can progress to the clinic. This review discusses these challenges and highlights the current understanding of targeted magnetic hyperthermia.

Magnetic Properties of Annealed Fe65Co35 Powders Prepared By Mechanical Alloying

Fe-Co alloy powders were prepared by mechanical alloying of the elemental Fe and Co powders in air and subsequently annealed at various temperatures. Structural and magnetic characteristics of the annealed powders were studied in detail as a function of annealing temperatures by using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a field emission scanning electron microscope, a vibrating sample magnetometer, and a physical property measurement system. The XRD results showed an existence of the nanocrystals with sizes of 15–50 nm. The magnetic studies indicated a strong increase of magnetization and a sharp decrease of coercivity as annealing temperature increased. Both the effect of the oxidation on the magnetic properties as well as magnetization stability of the annealed samples will be discussed.

Magnetic Properties of Annealed ${\rm Fe}_{65}{\rm Co}_{35}$ Powders Prepared By Mechanical Alloying

Interplay of Multiple Structural Phase and Magnetic Response of Bi1-Xprxfeo3 Ceramics

Magnetization and transport of (1 – x)La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 +xAg (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5) composites has been reported in this paper. Low Field Magnetoresistance (LFMR), conductivity (σ) and metal – insulator transition temperature (Tp) increases with increasing content of Ag. Due to the presence of nomagnetic Ag in the ferromagnetic La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 material, dc magnetization decreases but the corresponding Tp increases. Based on the spin polarized transport of conduction electrons at the grains boundaries, we find that our experimental data (MR – H) agree quite well with the dependence of temperature on tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) described by an expression of Hwang et al.
