TL;DR: The Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) as mentioned in this paper is a major initiative of the World Meteorological Organization's World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and a key component of the Polar Prediction Project (PPP).
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal climate summary southern hemisphere (spring 2014): El Niño continues to try to break through, and Australia has its warmest spring on record (again!)
TL;DR: The Southern Hemisphere circulation patterns and associated anomalies for the aus-tral spring 2014 are reviewed in this article, with emphasis given to the Pacific Basin climate indicators and Australian rainfall and temperature patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal climate summary southern hemisphere (spring 2012): warmer and drier across much of Australia, along with a new southern hemisphere sea ice extend record
TL;DR: In this article, atmospheric, oceanic and sea ice conditions in the southern hemisphere are reviewed for the austral spring of 2012, with emphasis given to the Pacific basin climate indicators and Australian rainfall and temperature patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical characteristics of the Antarctic sea-ice zone derived from modelling and observations
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use numerical models of the atmosphere, sea ice and surface mixed-layer ocean in the sea ice zone, together with observations to simulate a comprehensive range of parameters and their variability through the annual cycle to provide a basis for further observations and model validation for the present climate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sea ice-free corridors for large swell to reach Antarctic ice shelves
TL;DR: In this article , an algorithm is developed to identify sea ice-free corridors that connect the open Southern Ocean to Antarctic ice shelves from daily satellite sea ice concentration data between September 1979 and August 2019.
