This paper studies a number of quantized feedback design problems for linear systems. We consider the case where quantizers are static (memoryless). The common aim of these design problems is to stabilize the given system or to achieve certain performance with the coarsest quantization density. Our main discovery is that the classical sector bound approach is nonconservative for studying these design problems. Consequently, we are able to convert many quantized feedback design problems to well-known robust control problems with sector bound uncertainties. In particular, we derive the coarsest quantization densities for stabilization for multiple-input-multiple-output systems in both state feedback and output feedback cases; and we also derive conditions for quantized feedback control for quadratic cost and H/sub /spl infin// performances.

A Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model is employed to represent a networked control system (NCS) with different network-induced delays. Comparing with existing NCS modeling methods, this approach does not require the knowledge of exact values of network-induced delays. Instead, it addresses situations involving all possible network-induced delays. Moreover, this approach also handles data-packet loss. As an application of the T-S-based modeling method, a parity-equation approach and a fuzzy-observer-based approach for fault detection of an NCS were developed. CORRESPONDENCE - Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy-Model-Based Fault Detection for Networked Control Systems with Markov Delays

This paper examines the adaptive event-triggered fault detection problem of semi-Markovian jump systems (S-MJSs) with output quantization. First, we develop an adaptive event-triggered scheme for S-MJSs that is more effective than conventional event-triggered strategy for decreasing network transmission information. Meanwhile, we design a new adaptive law that can dynamically adjust the event-triggered threshold. Second, we consider output signal quantization and transmission delay in the proposed fault detection scheme. Moreover, we establish novel sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability in the proposed fault detection scheme with an $H_{\infty }$ performance with the help of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, we provide simulation results to demonstrate the usefulness of the developed theoretical results.

Adaptive Event-Triggered Fault Detection Scheme for Semi-Markovian Jump Systems With Output Quantization

A nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) scheme is developed in this paper based on a self-organizing recurrent radial basis function (SR-RBF) neural network, whose structure and parameters are adjusted concurrently in the training process. The proposed SR-RBF neural network is represented in a general nonlinear form for predicting the future dynamic behaviors of nonlinear systems. To improve the modeling accuracy, a spiking-based growing and pruning algorithm and an adaptive learning algorithm are developed to tune the structure and parameters of the SR-RBF neural network, respectively. Meanwhile, for the control problem, an improved gradient method is utilized for the solution of the optimization problem in NMPC. The stability of the resulting control system is proved based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, the proposed SR-RBF neural network-based NMPC (SR-RBF-NMPC) is used to control the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration in a wastewater treatment process (WWTP). Comparisons with other existing methods demonstrate that the SR-RBF-NMPC can achieve a considerably better model fitting for WWTP and a better control performance for DO concentration.

Nonlinear Model Predictive Control Based on a Self-Organizing Recurrent Neural Network

Quantized H∞ filtering for switched linear parameter-varying systems with sojourn probabilities and unreliable communication channels

This paper studies the approach of model predictive control (MPC) for the non-linear systems under networked environment where both data quantization and packet loss may occur. The non-linear controlled plant in the networked control system (NCS) is represented by a Tagaki-Sugeno (T-S) model. The sensed data and control signal are quantized in both links and described as sector bound uncertainties by applying sector bound approach. Then, the quantized data are transmitted in the communication networks and may suffer from the effect of packet losses, which are modeled as Bernoulli process. A fuzzy predictive controller which guarantees the stability of the closed-loop system is obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Model predictive control of non-linear systems over networks with data quantization and packet loss.

This paper investigates the H∞ control problems for uncertain linear system over networks with random communication data dropout and actuator saturation. The random data dropout process is modeled by a Bernoulli distributed white sequence with a known conditional probability distribution and the actuator saturation is confined in a convex hull by introducing a group of auxiliary matrices. By constructing a quadratic Lyapunov function, effective conditions for the state feedback-based H∞ controller and the observer-based H∞ controller are proposed in the form of non-convex matrix inequalities to take the random data dropout and actuator saturation into consideration simultaneously, and the problem of non-convex feasibility is solved by applying cone complementarity linearization (CCL) procedure. Finally, two simulation examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed new design techniques.
